Victoria Police introduces safe sites to exchange goods online
This is very similar to the advice some of us have posted on these boards (to arrange pickup next to a police station to avoid trouble). It’s a good idea, I think; if it works out well, perhaps other states will implement something similar.
It’s probably not the solution for every pick-up sale; some items would probably be difficult or impossible for an occasional seller to move, but it will probably prevent quite a few scams or instances of violent robbery or criminals casing your home for later.
It might be better suited to Facebook sales rather than eBay sales… but any way of avoiding problems is something to consider.
