We operate two basic ebay stores both selling the same kind of items. One focusses more on bulk quantities while the other does more single quantities. All the same stuff, baby headbands & accessories.
Up until about mid December we were averaging 25-30 packages per day between both the stores. Then sales dropped in both stores, to be expected I guess. Since then one store has come back up to nearly where it was before Xmas while the other is now lucky to sell and languishing at maybe 1 item per day.
We check our best match results regularly by using the same keyword search. The one store that is doing badly now has dropped way off the bottom of the search result list, well below 500 ranking while the other has lots of items up inside the top 100. So good best match results is clearly where we sell most of our stuff.
We have not made any changes to the listings in either store. Our DSR's are 5's or very close to it in both accounts. All listings are 100% compliant with the new requirements. ie 30-days returns, FREE post, Express options etc etc. Premium Service on 100% of our listings.
All our listings are straight BIN. We rarely use auction format unless we get "freebies". Listing fees too high for us to recover.
I am at a loss to understand what we have done to deserve this treatment. We typically pay more than $1,000 each month in total fees to eBay and payPal. It will be less this month since sales are way down. This means eBay will lose about $500 from us this month because we are not selling as much. You would think they should want us to sell more for this reason alone.
Can the more experienced sellers here offer any opinions on what we might consider to improve this situation? Or what we might have unwittingly done, or not done for that matter?

I just know this one Clarry and I accidentally found your other one (guessed by the feedback comment)
it'll have to be a bit later this arvo, maybe tonight, I'm about to take the kiddies out for a while, but I'd be happy to help. But yes, you would need to PM me if you want me to know more. And if your rankings have changed today, I might not even be able to find the store that I did.
But I am pretty sure that one was yours I saw last night (can't remember the name) in 3rd position as it had the same feedback comment.

I would recommend listing daily auctions even if its just a few a day. I checked your listings and all buy it nows are resonable cheap you could do listing auctions at $9.99 each and come out with the same result. If you don't list daily items you will get less viewers which is why I suggest daily auction format and some buy nows to. Secondly put all the titles in CAPS as your listings are competing with other sellers you need to be noticed. On buy it nows consider the make offer option. Consider adding the BOLD feature. List on .com and .ca you get 50 free auction listings there per month. The USA & Canadian market is a huge market to explore. I list all mine on the American ebay site. Email a newsletter out a couple of times a week to all people who bought from you before you can get their email addresses easily enough. Free postage on buy it nows. Open a facebook app store. Advertise your store link where ever possible. These are just a few things you could do to try to improve your sales. Generally speaking Aug to September are huge months increase your listings during that tme Right about now through to march is always slow and I think thats for all sellers. You can only try but daily auction listings definately help get more viewers. If I just did buy it now I would be down and out. D

"There is no magic bullet for getting high rankings in Best Match search results, and itโs just as well! If all the Top Rated Sellers and PowerSellers knew all the secrets, it would make it a lot harder for others to get their share of exposure! The best way to rank well for eBayโs Best Match is to work towards getting your listings matching the following criteria:

Generally I am doing all that mentioned by collc2bull but stil find the sales down. I noticed a decline two weeks before Xmas a sudden rush after boxing day then quiet again, postage discounts works to I offer multiple items spend over $50 and get free world wide regular airmail postage. Numerous buyers have taken advantage of that. And free postage on all buy it now or BIN items as I call them. Also add your store web address to every internet search engine. Good prices is a must, you win on some and loose out on others. Good clear pictures with the zoom feature used helps to. Maybe your own web site could be a key feature to showcase your products.

if you have a link to your website, you cannot offer anything for sale or additional options etc, nor can you have any additional links leading to items for sale.
if you're just going to showcase items, why not use auctiva or photobucket?
(I don't know if that is allowed either, I know it's not allowed to use gallery pics etc for items other than what is for sale in your listing, though.
