Don't understand why such a drop in sales. May be need to move from ebay to another platform?

Sorry Cham - I really don't give a rats what you sell - for what price - or for whom.
I really haven't done too badly myself - but I have no need to publicly declare it on a forum.

If you dont give a rats, why do you feel the need to constantly comment on my posts ?
You are not the only one who follows the forums. This is a selling forum ( you know ......for current eBay sellers ) If you havnt got experience as a current seller, why are you sticking your bib in posting your septic comments here ? Maybe you would be better going back to the social forums and leave this one to people who actually want to discuss eBay selling in a constructive way.
Many others including myself learn a lot here from other peoples experiences. This requires people to share what is going on with their accounts. If people are not willing to do this, there's not really any point in having a selling forum. If you havnt got any helpful or constructive comments to make, this may not be the best place for you.

Helpful - constructive - comments should not contain - actual earnings or other personal information.
Constructive comments are mainly based on the policies of selling on eBay - the ins and outs of getting your item to your buyer - etc etc etc.
Not continual trumpet blowing.
How on earth would you have any knowledge of my selling or not selling.
And you can cease telling me where & when I can post.

chameleon, is the shipping container full from items you've sourced/collected over the years? Or had you ordered a shipping container full of items at some point?
(Please don't feel compelled to answer if it gives away information that you don't want to post...)

I have spoken to a couple of people I know who do sell regularly on ebay, who have 'shops' on ebay and who sell for a living, so they are not 'casual sellers'.
The word I had back is that yes, there has definitely been a drop in sales for them over the last 12 to 18 months, so yanrovinskay, you're not on your own.
Here is what I heard from one seller:
"eBay is going that bad at the moment, it will be lucky to be around next year. I talk to real people. Facebook and Amazon are killing ebay."
That of course is just one person's view & my own view is ebay will still be around next year, for sure. But maybe that particular seller will not stay with ebay as they have other avenues open to them, they have a B & M store.
Probably a lot depends on what a person is selling, but sure, it is probably worth looking at other platforms at the same time as continuing with ebay. That way you can compare results and decide what works best for your particular items.

When I was selling full time on ebay I was one of the larger and more visible sellers in my catagory and was getting offers of bulk lots of stock from businesses that where closing down all over Australia.
I also had a network of businesses that would contact me every year or two who would sell me stock as it regularly cycled through their business. I paid a fixed price per item, they would pack it on pallets and send it through their regular logistics Companies and I would take a trailer and ute and drive to their Adelaide depot and pick it up.
If I had an offer of stock from another state, I would also sometimes go on road trips, stopping at other businesses along the way, buying out surplus in my specialist field. I built up quite a network this way.
I would then sell the gems quickly to recoup my money, but would be left with the every day bread and butter stuff. Some of this got sold and some just ended up in storage when the next pallet load arrived.
Over the years its built up to the point I dont really have to buy much stock. Its all well and truly paid for by the gems that have already been sold, so now the job is just to sell it down and get it cleaned up before I retire.
Some of it is becoming a bit obsolete, but by the same token its almost impossible to buy in bulk now so its slowly thinning down. Other items have become rarer and have actually increased in value quite substantially, so swings and roundabouts.

I thought sales where down over new year so I went out and got a real job for 2 days a week. Now my partner tells me I haven't got time for more than 2 days per week as there is more hours available at work and I like finishing work at 4pm and getting paid for a days work instead of a having a good month followed by a bad month on ebay.
I think the pay is good but not having worked for someone else for nearly 7 years and being used to working sometimes for what seams like free on ebay its hard to tell. But one thing I know is I enjoy being an ebay seller and I see that as selling what is in demand. Where as some people sell a particular product and when ebay sales drop they figure ebay is on the way down.
I think you will always hear from those not doing well but little from those who are.

Great post eol. I have also worked 9 - 5 jobs but after years of self employment I,m almost institutionalised to the point where I couldnt face going to a regular job now. While self employment takes some personal discipline to maintain consistent work throughout the day, I love the freedom of doing what I want, when I want without the strict demands of regular set hours and other people.
Your comment of selling what people want to buy, rather than just the product line you have always sold is also great advice. My main line of stock ( the shipping container full ) has become a bit obsolete over the years as technology changes and cheap Chinese knock offs have had quite an effect. Its still slowly selling but I have had to set up a new selling id with different product lines to really keep ebay sales pumping.
Your final point that people only post here when things are not going well is also pertinent. There's a septic little group here who love to stick the boots into anyone who seems to be doing OK and is happy with their business performance. ( good old Australian tall poppy syndrome at work ). They can get quite nasty at times and this discourages people from sharing positive stories. Unfortunately, I suspect they are actually doing a lot of damage to the forums, which is evidenced by the number of posters who come here once, get lambasted by the little group and never return. We have seen a continually shrinking gene pool of regular posters and very little positive information shared resulting in corrosive, combative exchanges and an unrepresentative negative slant to threads. ( ..... just the way they like it .... )
