I used to sell rare expensive items on another account , eBay has send me offers to start selling again ' but I feel to scared of being ripped off with the buyer guarantee of money back & keep the item if not described .
Although I'd like to sell again & contribute my substantial fees to eBay's coffers I don't feel safe to use this platform until those risk factors are rectified .
Your thoughts please ?

Not sure if Aus Post still have this as an option, but sent a huge 100cm My Little Pony plush toy to the USA a few years ago and paid an extra $3.00 or so for a Signature on Delivery. I don't post international anymore as its not worth all the trouble that may arise. But it's just a thought if the option is still available.

i personally will never sell on ebay again after being scammed ,i sold an ipod which was in absolutley mint condition and working perfectly as it was fully refurbished ,a couple of days after the buyer recieved it he said it was faulty and would not charge . i took his word for it even though i knew it was as new , refunded him and picked up the item in person . upon getting home i checked my item out and it had alot of marks on it which it was unmarked when sent also had pry marks from being opened .when i checked the insides which i know very well the internals of the ipod had been swapped out for his broken ipod internals .i know this because i built the ipod and know i remove a certain part to aid in reasembly which wasnt removed from the internals of the ipod sent back to me and it was missing screws inside it which me being extremely fussy simply dont do . so i knew the buyer used my ipod to repair his for free and get his money back , i contacted paypal and ebay about the SWITCH SCAM and they said nothing could be done as it couldnt be proved....now all im left with is an unrepairable ipod and out of pocket a fair bit of cash
stupid me for trusting people ..well never again as i am not rich and cant afford losses like that.
my advice to anyone selling ipods is take photos of the serial numbers both on the back of the ipod and on the screen in the about ipod menu and put them on your listing so it could help prove you have been scammed or better yet dont waste your time selling them on ebay as you will eventually be scammed, scammers love anything starting with an i.

I found the old thread on the mobile phone I spoke of earlier. There might be some pointers in here for you if you have the time to read thru the rather lengthy thread.

B & M stores have always had scammers. I remember my mother telling me in the 1960s, she knew people who purchased an item, carefully removed and kept any tags, wore it, then returned it to the store to say they weren't happy and got a full refund. Not to mention the huge theft that would go on before CCTV and 'store exit security gates'.
People who work in smaller retail stores will tell you that often they will simply give someone a refund for something that clearly isn't faulty or shoes that have been worn a number of times, SIMPLY to get the person out of their store and end the tirade.
People who sell at markets will have people try to steal things while they aren't looking or simply say "I'll give you $2" - for a $10 item.
Selling online can be rewarding and profitable. You only have to see the number of successful Australian ebay millionaires, but they work very hard to secure the right products and change those products to suit the marketplace. For example, one Aussie ebay success story started selling Chinese sourced fishing reels and now sells fancy dress costumes.
So if you are keen on selling (as ebay still has the best coverage although other social media sites are stepping up). I would say go for it, but just as a buyer needs to beware, an ebay seller DEFINITELY needs to be aware of the possibilities and cover yourself appropriately.

you dont only have. to worry about ebays guarantee of money back & keep the item if not described being used against you out of 11 recent sales 8 went very well 3 sales have given me nothing but a big headache.. australia post seems to have lost 2 ipods ive sold which im going to have to end up refunding and loose my item too.. my buyer isnt going to waiit for ever and she shouldnt have to. one was sent to south australia and clearly addressed , registered and signature required posted within 24hrs of sale and now is well past the expected delivery time.. last tracking on that is its in nsw or qld somewhere go figure! the other sent the same way on says its recieved by australia post and thats it nothing since ..so out of 11 sales im highly likely going to be out of pocket for 3 my advice to the op is dont do it if the scammers dont get you these days australia post will stuff you up , MY OPINION IS ITS JUST TOO RISKY TO SELL ON EBAY.

surely you cant blame ebay because aus post stuffed it up in your words , what would be the diference had it been if you posted the items from your own web page sales. i mean sure ebay is not perfect for everone buyer or seller, bu you have come up here whith what i can see an aus post problem, which is fine , but aving a go at ebay is a bit rough.mmmmm

Come on Joe.
With eBay pulling their expected Delivery Times from heaven only knows where.
Then defecting the seller due to late delivery by Aust Post.
Blame the big BAY - their so called rules & policies have no bearing on life as we know it.
Except for 1 - bunch of garage implements. (the 1 is another story ).

please helen he said well past the times also the tracking is over the place its registered and signatured paid for not a $2 delivery. . we had an express post envelope cost a lot from a suburb 10 kilometers away took 7 days , and yes melbourne cup day was in the middle. my old chicken we sort of had could of done it in 25 minutes and stopped on her way for a latte. mmmm
i dont blame aus post if it was a standard letter but this chap paid for reg +signature. and mine paid express , what is the use of paying express to go up the road when it takes 7 days.
and helen you will find that ebay gets there times from aus post anyway. most of the times i have looked in the same state its like 4 days which is plenty. melbourne suburb to another melbourne suburb.

Please Joe,
I have just checked all my items.
I am regional - do we take that into consideration??
No matter what postcode - even WA & Tas - have the same estimated delivery time??.
And if the buyer is also regional or country - hello - how do they possibly intend to make allowances.
Personally - not even sure what eBay has to do with postage (other than taking their unwarranted cut) - the item from a good seller will arrive - in good time.
Communication between seller & buyer - the only interested parties (in all reality) - eBay is just the platform.
eBay are going to rule themselves out of the game.
