Seller limit

I've been an ebay member since 2000, and haven been selling on and off since 2002. I pay the fees and have pretty good feedback. I have gone to list an item and I get the following message -

You can not submit your listing due to the following problems

Alert

At this time, you can't list any more items with this account. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

eBay occasionally places limits on accounts in order to help keep our community safe. This limit isn't a reflection on you -- these same limits apply to many sellers.

I sold two items on 20/04/2014 and one on the 10/05/2014. In the past I have been able to sell much more without this "limit". I few months back, I tried selling a car but wasn't able to unless I started it at something like 99 cents - I wasn't able to list it for a price nor have a buy it now price.

When I queried it with ebay, they said all sellers have this limit - which is not true (I know friends who don't have any limts).

What is going on?

Re: Seller limit

I tried that before, but the ebay person I spoke to was reading a script over and over.. like a robot. Didn't seem really interested in helping.

Re: Seller limit

That is the point where you ask/insist on speaking to a supervisor.

It might not be fair, but it is the way it is.

I have over 1,000 listings on my primary account, and I kicked off my fair dinkum selling with 300ish. I would have had to jump through many hoops to get that level, but I was extant (and selling) when they brought the limits in.

what is the point of the selling limit, who does it exactly protect if I am a long term ebay seller?

Maybe it is a security measure for hacked accounts?

If your accopunt has been inactive for a while or low activity levels and then all of a sudden has a flurry of activity, perhaps this is a red flag that something unusual is going on?

Not sure, but have seen a few cases on the boards where accounts have been hijacked.

or

Maybe the activity has been so sporadic that eBay considers it prudent to add limits as there have been so many changes that perhaps they feel those who may be a bit rusty need to work out the kinks so to speak before progressing to high activity.

In that case it would be as much protection for you as it would be for the buyer and eBay
