Selling Fees and PayPal Fees

I am extremely disappointed with ebay - gone are the days when the little person could sell an item and reach a wide sector of the market.  While I was on ebay checking how my FEW items were going I was browsing and buying others.  I was not nor will I ever be a big seller on ebay.

To sell  an Item I have to use PayPal - no PayPal no listing.  After my item sold PayPal takes a cut and then ebay takes their cut - 9.9% to be exact.  I really cannot justify the 9.9% fee. I can understand a small fee being a fixed price for the service provided but a 9.9% fee of the final value is a joke.  The same amount of effort goes into an item if it is $1 or $1000.  Both ebay and the seller do no extra work on the $1000 item.  Fees like that should be directed to the big businesses.

A lot of people who sell on ebay are individuals  that may have a handful of items to sell every now and then. Ebay is quite happy to charge the  local community for selling their second-hand items and charge them 9.9%

Consideration should be given to the small sellers - people who sell every now and then.

Gumtree is my next move!!!!!!!!!

Lots of people are using it but it's a very frustrating site in a lot of ways as so many people forget to actually say where they are located for pick up. And yes, sometimes the little map will show location but it's a separate click, it would be better in the description.

Plus it can be a stressful site to sell on, if you go on the buy/swap/sell sites. I've seen people abused by others about their prices or about the condition of what they are selling etc. I recently saw one woman abused when she was giving some chairs away for free.

People also expect almost instant answers to their PMs.

One thing I think is potentially annoying though is the lack of privacy. If you list something, all your friends can see your post. You can get around that by opening another facebook account, but (in my experience) it is much easier to switch instantly between accounts on a computer, not so easy on a phone and of course, that's where you need to be able to do it most.

As for smaller items, they are better sold on ebay with postage.

It doesn't mean marketplace is no good, just that I think it depends on what items you want to sell and what sales board you choose.

Ebay has a place, definitely a wider range of goods.

I don't mind paying the standard ebay fees. I still think it's a bit rude to put a fee on postage though.

What really makes me angry is that on EVERY invoice i get, the fees are not adding up properly.

Ebay either cannot add or are stealing money in full view.

Try adding this $5.00 + $5.00 + $6.04 =

Well I get $16.04

Ebay get $16.08 and that's what will get charged.

It has been going on for quite a while now. An extra 1, 2, 3 or 4 cents more.

If it is happening on all my accounts, it is probably happenning on everyones.

They could be raking in a bit of money out of this.

I have complained to them, but nothing has changed.

It started off with just 1cent, now it's up to 4 cents. I wonder what it will get to before more people start to complain.

when you get your next invoice - add up the fees. I bet you get a different answer.

could it be that eBay are itemising the fee on each sale (down to the nearest cent) BUT calculating the fee on the total?

This would mean that, perhaps, an itemised $5.00 fee is actually $5.009 and the discrepency you see is all the fractions of a cent added together.

I know that wouldn't work for your three item example . . . and, for the purpose of this post, I have assumed you have only used the numbers quoted as an example.

Try applying the fee % to the exact total of your sales for a month and see if that explains the difference. If it does then eBay are not ripping sellers off. If it doesn't then there is a problem.

There's a bit on the invoice where they say they round off on the invoice but charge the actual amount. Someone quoted it recently and I can't be bothered looking for it when others can do that for themselves.

The fact is if they weren't charging fees on postage they'd increase the fees on the item. They'll get it one way or another. So long as I'm paying lots of fees I know I'm making lots of sales.

I write down the total that they say and I write down what it is with my total.

When I am charged - it is their inflated amount that is taken from paypal. Everytime
