I am sure this tip has been posted before but sellers - put your postcode or suburb in your location description.
"Melbourne" and "Sydney" are big places. If I have to email a seller one more time with the question "Where in Melbourne are you located?" I will scream.

it's ok, it's the internet, no one can hear you scream, but you may want to buy other household members a few sets of earplugs.
There's probably some listed on eBay!

It's the other way around isn't it? a buyer needs to have a postcode so the seller can send to them,a seller doesn't need a postcode as they are selling not buying so they just need to have a state ot town.Unless it's for a pickup item then of course you need to state your postcode

I am talking about local pick up. Many people will only buy items that are local pick up or within 25 kms. If the location description is "Melbourne" the item could be next door or it could be 100kms away.

why not use the "within 25klm" (or whatever distance you choose) function?
eBay knows where the seller is, so by using that function, you can limit your search to those within a specified distance of your postcode.
You can limit it down to as small as 10klm away.

doh, probably because you don't know about it LOL
ok
on the left hand side of the search page after you have your results are lots of ways for you to refine your search.
About 12 inches down the page on the left hand side, underneath where you choose "Australia Only", Show only etc, is a blue link called "More Refinements"
click on that
a pob up box appears
3rd from the bottom, left hand side is a hyperlink "Item Location"
click on that
then you get to the box where you can selesct distance.
I think that would be heaps easier as you don't have to scroll past completely irrelevant listings.

No, I know about it and I use it all the time. But it is full of holes. Just this morning I used a saved search (all my searches are within 25kms of my postcode) and an item came up I liked the look of. Emailed the seller and he tells me he is in Werribee South, - nearly 50kms from my place. It would be 25kms away if I went straight across the bay in a boat.
Much more fail proof if sellers, particularly "pick up only", just identified where they live. I always put "Item is in Hampton 3188". Too easy.

I totally agree with you - how lazy is it for sellers with Pick Up Only not to put where they are? Can't say how many times
I've had to ask them - with gritted teeth - and sometimes I just can't be bothered so I click forward.
