Serious Ebay privacy breach

Today I found out by accident that all my listings have information ( my phone numbers and address ) that should only be available on the checkout invoice, is there for all and sundry to read on the listing under (payment options).

Hey! why bother selling when anybody can come over and just take it.

Help desk can do nothing about removing them if a bid has been placed, unless all the items are removed from auction, I was told it may take up to a fortnight for IT to remedy the problem. After they did some checking, apparently I'm not the only one this is happening to.

The response to a this serious a problem is unacceptable.

This should never happen and I am pissed.

Re: Serious Ebay privacy breach

0Phaeton0, I'd be just as mortified as you if I found all my details on one of my listings.  And whether it was done because you popped it in yourself (in which case eBay should be able to TELL you that rather than give you a "2 week technician" spiel) or whether it was because eBay stuffed up,  perhaps there is a small consolation in the fact that since you are moving your address will be changing soon?

Lovely plants by the way . . . ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: Serious Ebay privacy breach

0Phaeton0, Sorry when I typed my post I didn't realise you had bids on most of your items.

You still should be able to edit the few with no bids the way I posted previously #4, as long as they have more than 12 hours to go.

If you click on Revise Item or Sell Similar item on one of your listings you will be able to see what information you put in the "Further Checkout Information" Box - it is right down the bottom of the 1st page.  I use Turbo Lister a lot of the time and it calls this box "Additional Payment Instructions" which I'm sure is the term used when editing items.  If you can't understand my instructons which I know are a bit garbled, you can just revise the few you have no bids on.  To save typing each time, type what you want in whatever word program you use and then delete details you have previously put in listing and just copy and paste new info from the word program.

ebay should have been able to advise you how to fix it - shows CS officers need more training about the "ins and outs" of ebay.

Thanks Kayedonproducts - Did remove checkout instructions immediately after speaking with help desk......

......... and still no further response from ebay.

Normally by now, a quick questionnaire about 'whether I was satisfied' would have been sent thru for me to fill out.

Nada.........

Am taking the advice to save all the listings that were compromised though.

Just contacted help desk on another matter & enquired as to what was happening re: private information on the listing.

Was given account security number to call.

Turns out my account has been breached by a third party (a nice terminology for hacked) and being used for purchasing.

Would still be I assume if I hadn't made tonight's call.

I thought ebay had tightened up their security. Obviously not.

!!!

Did eBay explain whether this extends to your Paypal account?  That is, is the third party paying  for the purchases with your money?

And did eBay explain their lack of diligence?

nonny_muss, spent another almost two hours being buck passed between 'customer service' officers the other night.

All to no avail.

Am being deafened by the silence on their end.

Was advised to change all passwords - Paypal included, and create a new email address. (Another 11/4 hours of my life wasted.)

The onus to rectify the problem appears to be all on my shoulders, with very little on their part.

There has been only a vague reference as to what the activity by the third party was,

( protecting their privacy I suppose -  pity about mine ) - Paypal is untouched.

The checkout details in the listing, as far as I can make out, is an IT issue.

What I find staggering is, an outsider can get into the system, yet they themselves are unable to access and remove the information once the auction has started. Boggles my mind.

Maybe they should employ the hackers - just a thought.

Sitting here holding my breath waiting for resolution.

Sorry for your troubles but 'm cracking up at it all :^O

It surprises me that Ebay hasn't yet used its stock standard  BS line on you about protecting privacy.

Of course that only genuinely respects Ebays own :_|
