She damaged a designer gown and now wants a refund....

I don't usually post on these boards but I am just so angry I have to vent.

I have bought and sold quite a bit on eBay over the years. Particularly designer dresses that I only ever wear for functions once. So I recently sold a Lisa Ho gown, which was beautiful, for $120. An absolute bargain.

The buyer paid, I sent it. The day I sent it I received an email from the buyer asking if she would receive it by the weekend because she wanted to, and I quote "show it off to her friends".

Anyway a few days later a receive an email telling me that I had misrepresented the dress in the listing as it has at least 20 holes in it! Including a couple of very large ones!

Now I know the dress had no holes in it when I sent it. 2 other people looked it over before I listed it. Not only that, I wore it once for a few hours, had it dry cleaned and then stored in a vacuum sealed bag. I am 100% positive there was nothing wrong with this dress.

I asked for photo's and she returned some saying, and again I quote "it looks like someone has put their foot through it". And she's right. It does. But it certainly wasn't my foot.

I am so irritated. I did some searching and it looks as though eBay always side with the buyer in cases like this. Especially seeing as I don't have photos of every inch of it. So it's her word against mine.

Has this happened to anyone else? And what advice would you give?

I feel as though I have little choice but to offer her a refund - for a dress that is now worthless. I could cry.

Puts advice on paypal claims provided by some to OP in an entirely different light.

Some of the fun has gone out of this thread now.

What a horrible thing to do to those other sellers.  I hope that ebay can help them and restore their feedback. Especially the one about blood stains in the crotch.  I don't suppose that seller will come back.  Shame shame shame.

Wasn't there another one like that on here recently?

The thread hasd totally changed topic, as threads do sometimes. Yes, all my interest has waned.

There was a similar distasteful feedback comment like that that came up not so long ago  Joono.

The number of goods that are not received by Lithium ID is also a worry, maybe they should start a thread, I will be happy to provide some advice as I am sure others would be too  Cat Happy

It seems that the Lithium ID has just turned their feedback to private. You can't sell with private feedback can you? I'm sure I read somewhere that if you're selling your feedback has to be public?

Oh thats a shame, so many areas where some advice could have been provided in relation to buying problems.

No you can't sell if your ID has feedback set to private

Hi everyone! I have to say i've really enjoyed reading all of your responses. Put a smile on my face 🙂 Particularly all the 'hooey'!

Well, the update is - couldn't see anything on Facebook. She was there, but nothing was open to the public.
The photo I did see though was her profile photo, standing with other people, and she looks very short.

This girl in question has now opened a case with eBay and I spoke to PayPal who were very nice about the whole thing, telling me to get my evidence together, which I was doing over the weekend.

But then today, I've received the dress back!!

I'm not sure whether she was told to send it back or not. But she did. I thought eBay would have let me know if that was case. I've only ever opened a case for an expensive item that someone bid on then fell of the face of the earth after winning. All I know is, that took weeks to get anything happening and the item relisted.

I'm not quite sure what to do now. I haven't looked at the dress yet. I just can't bring myself to. But I will tonight.

And then I'll be calling PayPal again tomorrow.

Thanks for listening and telling me your experiences. It helps to know you're not the only one that has got played!

Appears that the buyer has posted the dress back of her own accord.

I would check the condition that the dress was returned in before I did anything else -  to assess the extent of the damage and take several good clear photos of any damage that has been done since you sent the item to add to your evidence for paypal.
