Should eBay start charging non-paying bidders?

I like many sellers are annoyed with the constant array of non-paying buyers.

Although eBay does compensate final value fees (by using the unpaid item dispute process) listing fees for fixed listings are not refunded.

All buyers receive is a strike which is nothing compared to the consequences handed out for those who participate in shill bidding - no restriction on buying/selling on eBay no tutorial which buyers must complete so they understand that non-payment is unacceptable.

Perhaps if eBay fined non-paying buyers between $2-$5 every time they refused to pay it would stamp out this practice of non-payment. This would also save eBay effort and the money raised could be donated (at eBay's discretion) to benefit local charities.

I look forward to other buyer's opinions on this issue...

Re: Should eBay start charging non-paying bidders?

Good morning nova,

I know you have recently said on the public boards that you would never shop with us, being such a horrible seller an' all, but I presume we are still "allowed" to talk to you, aren't we?

And in any case the bidder would be able to snipe in the last 2 seconds, or buy BIN.

We had happen several times over the years, someone with a repetitive bad behaviour won or bought items, especially those who win in a last few seconds.

They didn't receive it, we totally refused to send it to them, told Ebay if they see fit to keep someone like that as a member we reserve the right not have to put up with them.

On one occasion slimebag even managed to leave a neg which was promptly removed.

Have a fun day

***super_nova*** US ebay has a cart system for stores which I've tried and, unlike here where the immediate payment option doesn't work when customers buy multiple items, it works a treat.

I have a friend with a store on US ebay who tells me her days of chasing buyers for payments are over. Perhaps one day.....

I always look after the buyer but it annoys me to no end that when i get stuffed around i have to wait & wait & then go back through the process of selling an item again when the non paying bidder is off buying & paying for something else.

Time to get tuogh Ebay & look after the selllers as well.

The best way to cover yourself and other sellers is by opening and closing an Unpaid Item dispute. The earliest you can get your FVF back is 8 days after the listing has ended. All the relevant info is here: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/sell/unpaid-items.html

@ super nova, I would check for neg fb especially on those with very little feedback but would still give them the benefit of the doubt & allow them to bid on any item i list but once payment is not made & no contact made re: if or when payment will be made then the seller should have the option to give negative fb so that other sellers are aware of track records of a particular buyer. Ebay is after all a trust system & some people maybe ignorant to this fact but there is very little trust these days. If letting a seller give negative fb to buyer is such a big issue then why let a buyer be able to give a seller neg fb.

I don't sell things on ebay to have others waste my time & ruin it for others who are legit.

Going by your 20* feedback i take it you haven't had to deal with this situation time & time again, If & when you do you will change your tune quick smart.

You have fallen into a common misconception. A member's feedback on the ID they post on generally has little to do with their experience. You might note many of us don't post with our main selling IDs. It avoids having people who don't agree with us trashing our feedback. And nova is a very experienced member.

8.9% is a big number for 1 month.

Suppose I will concentrate having alot more "Buy it now" and "Best Offer" rather than auctions.  I can't accept non-bidders to be apart of the norm for my business.  There is no other online auction that I know of that would find non-bidders as an acceptable liability.

Some here can gloss over the issue by saying, well you haven't lost anything because ebay credits your account after waiting from lodging a dispute resolution.  Problem with that scenario is your having to wait to relist it.  Maybe thats why not everyone lodges a dispute.

They want to avoid the hassle and get their item listed asap to sell.

In business time is money.

Well, thats what I always thought and non-bidders are costly timewasters.

Generally I think posters use their selling and buying ID... I think a very small amount of people actually post using a posting ID... The fact can be proven by the amount of red doors and items for dasle you can find on most of the IDs in the buyimg and selling forum..... except for the few staunch regulars

How do you know nova is an experienced member... did they tell you?

why should the other poster trust your assertions?

Where is ebays information regarding posting ids ?

Should all members just trust and not question FORUM posters with low feedback given the importance that ebay places in it??

Its more to do with the quality of the info provided that gives the experience of a poster away, the fact you don't like what they have said is besides the point.

and most that post with selling IDs are often very restrained and don't really say it as it is;-)
