Sold Item Lost in Transit

Hi there, I've recently sold an item that may be lost in transit. My listing specifically states that if a buyer wants to ensure that they receive compensation for any lost or damaged parcels due to transit, they can take out insurance when selecting a postage option. As this is the case, will I need to refund or make good if the parcel is actually lost in transit? Besides out of good will? Kind regards, Peony Rouge.

I had one of these a while ago (tracked parcel).

It seems in my case the customers address details were incorrect and the parcel went to the wrong recipient.

I really don't know how it worked out for the buyer (she claimed her account had been hacked so the mis-direct was not her fault).

I was covered by Seller Protection as tracking showed delivery to the listed (though incorrect) ebay address.

eBay views delivery as completed if the delivery tracking shows up as within 50km of the actual address ie the local delivery centre.

This is as definite as AP tracking will ever get so I guess ebay consider it as acceptable proof.

Ebay's wish list is not necessarily your command.

I buy a few things from ebay and I don't think I have ever been offered next day post on any of them. The last item I bought had a 7-11 day range for estimated delivery.

I also paid $10 extra for postage.

The trouble with some of ebay's suggestions (eg starting an auction at 99c etc, offering free postage etc) are more about making the site exciting for buyers, making them more likely to purchase and so generate ebay revenue, they aren't necessarily in the best interests of sellers.
