THOUGHTS PLEASE

Sold a Lisa Jackson book & buyer said would pay in a week (didn't ask, just told me). Three days later told me to cancel - not requested, told. I opened an unpaid item dispute after 4 days as I'm wary of cancellations, defects, neg feedback - the whole ball & dice. Explained to her what I was doing & why & put her on my BBL. Today sold another Lisa Jackson book to a person who only opened her acct today, with the same address as the first buyer. Wrote to her & asked was she the same person with the same address & similar email to first person, & if she wanted to buy another book she could have contacted me. Reply - never heard of her & I only moved in on weekend - oh yeah!! Small world!! What would you do - Send & hope she's not maliciously inclined - neg feedback for some unproveable point etc.. By the way she hasn't paid yet - that is supposed to happen tomorrow - same day as the other buyer!! Any constructive comments appreciated.

THOUGHTS PLEASE

I'm hoping for an unpaid item - as if it goes thru they can't leave feedback.

If I cancel I think they can leave feedback - which is what I don't want.

How is it that as a seller we do all the right things & end up in this situation, with a chance of having some sort of dispute or ugly comment left?

THOUGHTS PLEASE

OK everybody - here is the reply from the buyer after I sent her the note about reporting accounts...

"U might as well cancel if ur not going to send book."

So I'll do the UPI after 4 days.  Already added second identity to my BBL, so hope this is THE END.

Once again, thanks for all the help & positive input.

Cheers
Lynne

I would ring ebay again and report the buyer for using a second id to circumvent your buyer block. Often you get a customer service rep who is more helpful than others and undersatands that what this buyer has done is a serious breach of ebay policy. I would keep calling and asking to speak to a suoervisor until something is done.

Hi Phorum Junkie That's exactly what I did & the Ebay rep said that I couldn't prove that it was the same person & that they had opened a second acct to circumvent my block. We had quite a heated discussion, with me detailing all the "proof" I had, so the outcome was that they would escalate to Trust & Security - however due to privacy provisions I would never know the outcome. It's super hard to try to make them understand - her mantra was "give the buyer the benefit of the doubt" & my mantra was "no way am I giving her the opportunity to leave malicious feedback or make an untrue complaint about the item." Am now in a quandary as the buyer said just cancel (I was going to open an UPI dispute after 4 days), however she has now put in the paid by Bank Deposit symbol, so am just waiting to see if money actually goes in. Oh the joys of selling!!

They probably think that can prevent a UPI. Did they go through eBay's checkout, or just mark as payment sent?

I was thinking the same thing as they will have the UPI on their first ID. Just marked as payment sent. Hoping it doesn't go in & then I'll still do the UPI on the second item. So much time & stress for no reason, other than bloody mindedness. Oh well, suppose after all this time selling I had to have some sort of horrible experience. Cheers everybody.

I wouldn't send anything, regardless of whether she pays or not - not unless you're happy to give away the item, the postage, and the fees. Even if you send it reg'd you could possibly still get a neg for your efforts.

Marking as paid by bank deposit from the buyer's end won't stop you opening a UPI. I've done it myself. Buyer went through checkout to get my bank details, marked it as paid their end, nothing showed my end so I opened a case after a week or so. I was going away so couldn't leave it any longer. Buyer got my contact details from ebay but they never once emailed about it so I didn't answer the phone. If they'd emailed I would have got them to double check the account numbers.

I don't know how to stop them bypassing the blocks by opening new IDs.  I had a buyer do it recently - she left bad feedback because she couldn't understand that 2 x 1/2 = 1, but it wasn't a neg.

Hi I have no intentions of sending & will definitely be opening a UPI. Judging from this person's previous actions I can guarantee that she has no intentions of paying & has used bank deposit because she thinks if its marked from her end as paid that I won't be able to do a UPI (which I've already done on her first ID.) For some reason she has decided to play these games & I have no idea why. When I opened the first UPI I explained why I was doing it this way & she said OK, but obviously it wasn't OK!! Live & learn from these experiences.

Buyer has now changed her address - to make Ebay think she is not the same person as first buyer??

Just keeps getting better & better - not!!
