Hi there,
I'm thinking of getting back into selling on ebay through a store on my selling account. I used to have a store over a year ago. I gave it up but I want to try and hopefully get back into selling like I onced did before.
I had a fairly successfull store running, but I just wanted to know from the selling community if it is still viable to own a store? Its been over a year since I had a store, what are some things I should be aware of, or things that I might have missed since last owning a store?
Hope to hear from your input.
Kind Regards

Some changes since you last sold. Final Value Fees on postate, the Money Back Guarantee Scam, Paypal extended their dispute time for 45 days to 180 days, most importantly, DEFECTS.
You get defect for sneezing, defected for breathing and defected for getting out of bed the wrong way. You get defects for low star ratings, including a 3 star rating. You get defects for neutral and negative feedback. Defects for cancelling transactions. The list goes on.
Might pay to read through some of the help pages to see what else has changed.

Geez, you make it sound really bad, difficult & hard work. Fact is, it really is like that. You get slapped every inch of the way. Test the waters though and see how you find it.

Interesting interesting. Yes I have heard about about the FVF on the postage, I guess it was about time since other countries like the US already have that implemented. Still unfair since in Australia we have to pay higher postage costs to send things, plus have to compete with other countires that have lower postage costs. Just less money in our pocket and more in ebay pockets.
And refering to Defects what do you mean by it? I don't any information on this.
Cheers!

I would just list on the 40 free listings a month, do not worry about a store at the moment.
not selling for a year, you might only get 10 listings ( not sure on that one)
also all new sellers or naughty ones, Paypal keep your money for 3 weeks.

http://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/ebay-for-business/seller-performance-standards
Our standards include protections to prevent individual buyers from impacting your standard while ensuring buyers have the retail-like shopping experience that will keep them coming back.
The transaction defect rate is the percentage of your transactions where one or more of the following has occurred – the top predictors that a buyer will buy less or leave eBay altogether:
A low defect rate means that your buyers consistently receive the item they expect, when they expect it. Buyers won't see your defect rate, but they will still see your Feedback rating and all four detailed seller ratings.
To meet the minimum standards to sell on eBay.com.au, your transactions over the most recent evaluation period must meet these requirements:
Minimum performance standards on eBay.com.au | Top Rated Seller | All sellers |
Maximum defect rate | 2% | 5% |
Closed cases without seller resolution | 2 (or 0.3% of transactions) | 2 (or 0.3% of transactions) |
Transactions with buyers from Australia and overseas (except US, UK and Germany) are counted. You can see how your performance is rated in your Seller Dashboard.

The difference being, US sellers only pay fees on their lowest domestic postage rate, whereas we pay fees on every rate. That means it's not viable for most small sellers to post overseas any more. When a US seller sends overseas, even though they are paying a much higher postage rate than domestic, they still only pay fees equivalent to their lowest domestic rate. VERY unfair.
