Thinking of opening a store...

but there are a couple of things that I can't figure out...

Basic stores and Featured stores are the same monthly price.  What's the difference?   Featured stores seem to have more features, so why would anybody bother with a Basic Store?  I can't work that one out.

I have listed my 30 items for free.  What happens to these listings when I move to a store?  Do I then have to pay an insertion fee for them, or do they stay free and I only pay on new listings?

If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.  Feeling a bit lost!

Cheers

Julia

So why do they allow a member to have mulitple IDs linked to the same email and PP account? What's the point? Seems like a massive loophole.

I remember googling around a couple of weeks ago and read somewhere that you can have 10 ebay accounts linked to one PayPal account

So if you have 2 PayPal accounts, you can link up to 20 eBay accounts:-D

Just imagine all the logging in an out all the time, processing sales, that sound like fun:-D

It has nothing to do with multiple eb\y ids being added to a Paypal account, it is up to 8 email addresses that can be added. Many people have different on-line businesses with different email addresses, you have to link your Paypal account to your ebay account bit not the other way round, without looking at what your incoming payments are for Paypal wouldn't know if an email address was connected to ebay.

If the seller is using different email addresses for their Paypal payments then they would have no idea that both those addrssess were linked to the same Paypal account.

Buyer and seller protection is on a by transaction basis so there is absolutely no loophole because of multiple email addresses.

Phorum, what I mean is that having multiple user names on eBay lends itself to abuse and I wonder what the point of it is.

For example, one may get ripped off by a seller and then unknowingly buy from that same dubious seller under a different alias with a better feedback record.

Likewise, a buyer one has blocked can come back to haunt you under multiple different names. In fact, this has certainly happened to me at least a few times -- that I know of.

And Phorum -- the other thing about multiple user names is members forcing up bids + shill bidding and bid shielding.

I think if someone is going to have mulitple accounts they should be made to have an 'umbrella' name that they have to trade under. This would help to ameliorate the problems I've outlined. I guess it would be unwelcome by members who have shady dealings in mind, though.

Again, I am only talking about eBay here, not all online commerce.

Pretty easy to get sprung if you use your own ID, from the same computer, with the same IP addy, registered to the same person, to shill.

I would imagine smart (in this context) shillers would get a mate to do it for them. Or do it in a way that doesn't link the two IDs. In which case they wouldn't be the same person as far as eBay is concerned.

I can't help wondering how long ebay will allow members to have free listings on multiple ebay IDs.

Surely if you have a couple of hundred items to sell (which I don't lol) then you would be better off paying for a store than worrying about juggling half a dozen IDs just to get free listings.

I also don't like the idea.  What if I collected DVDs and I bought one from a particularly slack seller and so decided not to use them any more but I kept finding myself buying from them when I had intended not to?

I suppose if you sell in two main categories, for example books and movies then having one ID for each would be fine.

Another thing.  How long do you think free listings will remain once ebay have eliminated themselves of all the stores that they don't want?

Six IDs having to pay for all listings?

I would imagine that for a seller it would be easier to keep things in one place ?

I'm thinking of all the extra paperwork/record keeping needed in order to give to the ATO and other government agencies (if involved) such as Centrelink?

If you earn over a certain amount here the figures are sent to the ATO aren't they? Which I'd think would make it easier ?

Do they add up the total amounts earnt if you have various selling ID's ? and do other auction sites send them to the ATO as well?

Iza, the tax department ask for details of power sellers sometimes.  If you had a number of ids then you probably won't be a power seller on any of them and if you were a power seller you wouldn't get free listings anyway.

You still need to receive payment somehow, and the tax office have access to all of those records, so multiple IDs wouldn't protect you from your taxation responsibilities (I mean 'you' in a general sense, not to anyone in particular :))
