Those who sell vintage dolls please be aware of this unpleasant possibility with your sale

Although this incident is specifically about dolls, this would apply to all products you can sell.

just had to deal with a buyer who opened a claim with paypal because of a doll which has 3 holes in the body so water can drain out of the doll after it has been played with in the bath/water (this doll was specifically made to play with in the bath). As the doll is 25 years old paypal could not find any info on the net about this and I was told I need to accept a return on the doll as it's damaged. Please ensure you dont have to go through what I did, and be over $40 out of pocket for postage etc, by ensuring you even mention obvious things on a doll such as urinary tract exits on drink & wee dolls, because some buyers have the IQ of a rock.

up on what hasn't changed since 1990?

Yep, you do.

It all changed in 2010.

If you are a seconhand "dealer" then you would be in business. Any goods you sell in the normal course of your business whether new or secondhand, are covered by consumer protection laws.

If you are not in business and you sell a or some secondhand items, those items may or may not be protected by consumer protection laws. It depends mainly on how you sell the items.

Re: Those who sell vintage dolls please be aware of this unpleasant possibility with your sale

Thanks everyone for your feedback and advise.

The issue has been solved in the favor of buyer (as usual) and I am left hanging high and dry.

What peeved me most about the buyer was the 'Im not an expert on these dolls therefore YOU should have mentioned them". I'm a buyer and sometimes a seller and am so sick of buyers who expect sellers to be their nanny, babysitter, history teachers, quality controllers and the lot.

Buyers take no responsibility for their own mess ups.

I think that the best way to sell is to simply add maximum pics, of every angle and inside (if you see that) and simply say " see pictures they are the description" then no one can come back and say 'you forgot to mention' as you dont mention anything..... or am I missing something there that will make me get burned again?

Which also makes me wonder, if you say returns accepted but all shipping costs (both ways) are for the buyer, is that allowed?
