US customers can no longer purchase in one transaction?

Over the past month or so, several buyers in the USA have told me they're being taken to Paypal immediately after buying an item in my store, rather than being given the option of continuing shopping, then requesting a total at the end. Has something changed? It means I have to refund all their extra postage because they're paying it several times over, and of course Paypal takes the 30c transaction fee for each one as well.

I know this is a problem with phone apps but these customers are using browsers.

Apparently my buyers are not seeing a cart option so they can't "add to cart" either (I don't understand why, when I purchase for example, I can only see the Cart option with some sellers.). I don't have the "Require immediate payment" option ticked (Australian and other international customers don't seem to have the problem).

There's no cart if you view your items from the US site, just tried it.  Man Sad

Looks like it's all Australian sellers' items.... (just checked my own).

That's madness. Smiley Surprised Smiley Mad Sorry, I can't offer a solution but this started happening to some Oz sellers in a particular category (trading cards) several months ago, and I can't believe that not only has the problem not been fixed, it's expanded. ๐Ÿ˜ž (Reason given back then was that buyers were opening INR or INAD cases on all purchased items if only one in their lot was missing, damaged or faulty, so making them checkout individually was eBay's "solution").

It's particularly bad now that FVF is being charged on postage here (and, unlike in the US where it's only charged on the first domestic option, it's on whatever is charged to the buyer when they checkout), and there is no FVF credit if you refund overages.

eBay, the timing for this glitch / update / whatever is not making you look very good. Smiley Indifferent

eBay's response to my email is that "Other buyers can still do one-time purchase and one-time payments for multiple items if the items do not require immediate payment." (I haven't got the "require immediate payment" option ticked for ANY items in my Store.)

So they're saying there is no problem.

I logged into ebay.com (not .au) using an old US account of mine and clicked "Buy Now" on one of my items that a customer had problems with, and sure enough I was taken to Paypal's checkout with no option to keep shopping.

So clearly there is a problem.

The category is Jewellery.

This is the thread where the issue was first brought to light, http://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Selling/Selling-to-the-USA-and-UK-Buyers-are-having-to-pay-for-each/...

starting January and continued denial of the problem by ebay, then there was an acknowledgement of a "tech issue" with a promise they were working on it, then one of the sellers was informed it was a deliberate change.

The only workarounds we could come up with is either advising OS buyers to log into eBay AU so that they can use the cart and/or BIN items individually, or by offering an alternative payment method that - while doesn't make the Add to Cart button available on OS sites - means that if a buyer selects it when they are directed to pay immediately, they can instead commit to purchase like a normal BIN. Neither of which are particularly elegant or intuitive solutions, and really doesn't address the problem at large. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I think this problem needs more attention, because it basically means eBay are effectively all but forcing immediate payment required on all Australian listings for buyers located overseas, as well as removing the ability for even automatic postage dicounts to come into effect by disabling the cart for Oz listings on OS sites, meaning that the maximum amount of FVF is levied on each individual item, and that's just wrong. Smiley Mad

It also means Paypal collects 30c for all those extra transactions.

Today I have a new problem with a Canadian buyer. I combined her 4 purchases onto one invoice with shipping reduced but when she went to pay via the invoice, only one item was on it (with the usual postage) so she paid for that. When I checked my account, her items were uncombined. So I recombined the remaining 3, with free shipping, and when she went to pay there was again only one of the items on the invoice, with the postagecharge reinstated. In the end I advised her to pay individually and I refunded the postage, but again Paypal got those extra 30c transaction fees...
