Unfair negative

I sold a football jumper on Saturday night.  I picked up the sale on Sunday and noticed that the people had asked me a question about the jumper which I didnt get until Sunday morning.  They had already purchased the jumper and I sent through an invoice and said they were welcome to pick up as they didnt live far from me.  They said they would come over and turned up with their daughter who would have been about 11 or 12 and the jumper I was selling was size 10.  They immediately said it was a size 8 when clearly it was size 10 marked on it.  They went about finding faults with the jumper picked this, picked that and they were buying secondhand and very cheaply at the price I sold it for.  They were very unreasonable and I honestly dont know what they expected.  I told them that if they didnt want it not to worry and we did the cancellation through Ebay.  I was annoyed that they had this attitude and sent them a note the other night to tell them to think about what they do and they sent back a nasty note and I replied again and then they gave me an unfair negative.  I went through the Ebay process to try and get the negative removed buy the buyer has declined.  I have left a positive but warning other sellers about them.  I am worried now whether I should try and sell again on Ebay and should close this account and just open a new one.  I have a feedback of 1439.  I have it private at the moment because I am so upset over this.  I dont have any ads on at the moment.  I did send the lady a nice email yesterday to ask her if she could remove the negative but she is so heartless.  This is a bad experience for me.  I dont know what to do.  I was good enough to let them come to my house, luckily I didnt let them into the house.  There is always someone out there who spoils it for people.

Re: Unfair negative

I am a bit unsure as to what the strike thing means exactly and as to whether it is for a certain period of time or what.   Hopefully it wont be too long.    I will try and find the time to find information about it.

Thanks for your message.  Carpet people are hard to deal with.

I do put things into the description as to flaws etc because it is the best way by being honest.

The jumper in question was in very good condition as I advertised it.  The people implied that it was faded, shrunk etc.  I totally disagree with that.    Polyester would be pretty hard to shrink unless you put it into extremely hot water and then the colours would have run.  I have had items from time to time with flaws in them and have photographed such things so as not to mislead people.

One of the first things I learnt on here was to NEVER write an email while angry or upset. ALWAYS be polite and proffesional.

My advice is to type out what you would like to say to get it out of your system and then delete it and type what you should say!

the strike policy violation will be recorded against your account for, I think, three months. it really only has any detrimental effect if you are a TRS.

You only have to look at the number of people who come here when they have purchased from sellers with dozens of negs and are surprised when things go wrong to see that a single neg is not going to have too much impact. best way to deal with it is to sell a lot more so it drops off the first page.

Re: Unfair negative

Thanks for your advice.  I am rebuilding my confidence now and putting some ads on tonight and see what happens.  I closed my shop down on Monday night after this happened and am trying the auctions again.  Hopefully I can get my confidence back.  I have left pick up off for now and just see what happens if I get a sale. Fingers crossed.

I spoke to Ebay tonight and I dont have a strike just a violation.  the guy I spoke to was very nice.  It is just one of those things.

Yes and I have been pretty professional and polite with my dealings with people, this one was an exception, those people really got my back up.  I regret what happened now.  I will move on.  I havent been doing much with Ebay lately only advertising but not selling much.

Re: Unfair negative

What surprises me about all this is that the buyers are not newbies.  They have over 30,500 feedback, so it really was an unfortunate brain explosion when you sent them that message.

Good luck with your future sales and for what it is worth, that one red dot wouldn't put me off buying from you if you had what I wanted.

Re: Unfair negative

Thanks kindly for your nice words.  I have a lot of faith in people.  I have been through much worse times than this with a husband who got cancer twice and eventually passed away after months of treatment so this is just a minor hick up to what I have been through.

Sometimes I wish there were a greater number of characters allowed in feedback so you can tell your side of the story, or even allow us to link off ebay

Re: Unfair negative

Thanks to everyone for my post a couple of weeks ago.  I listed a few items and have already sold 3 items so my confidence has been restored a little bit now.  One lady picked up her item yesterday and it was a lovely transaction.  I just had to get my confidence back.:-)
