A question for ebay guru's,is it possible to apply for long term unused and "no longer registered sites?
I have my eye on an old I.D [USA] that was opened in 1998 and not used since 2002,and has a kinda cute title and is no longer registered.
[But I'm not tellin' what it is]

try it, they'll either accept or reject.
there's no charge - try as many as you like, but just know you can only change your ID name once every 30 days, so if you make a spelling error in it or pick a shocker, you're stuck with it for a month!

Yo,never thought of trying to change one of my existing I.D's rather than establishing a whole new one,
[Got too many anyway].....ta crikey

I once tried re using an id I had many, many years ago. It was never used to sell with and had no 'issues' but it still said it was unavailable.
Remember you can always try a similar name. ie if it was iamanumpty you could try i_am_a_numpty or iamanumpty* or iamanumpty2 or any other tweak you like.

ROFL - I notice you've had a lot of practise with that one PJ!
dunno if it's the same thing, but they let me use the same name twice on this account.

no crikey not the same thing, you never retired the original crikey*mate, just changed it to something else and changed back again.

Hi tstore,
Just to clarify,
Do you mean that you knew your current ID was previously in use with another party before you, and it became available to take it over? or did you just keep punching ideas into the register until you found one you were happy with.(Like usual)
My point being that all the really interesting, uncomplicated and precise ID's were taken way back in the late nineties (mainly in the US )and I was just pondering a method to find out if the deregistered ones at least could be reinstated by negotiation/application, rather than the current hit and miss system.
( Dare I say it,maybe an ID auction category)

I had this same situation as you a while back on this ID. I got sick of typing in leader_of_the_band when logging in so I tried to change it to leader-of-the-band instead. I found that this ID was not available because someone in Germany had that ID and the account had been inactive for many years. I used the 'contact member' link on the users feedback page to send them a message knowing that the message would go to their email address. Not long after that I was just checking the availability of the ID one day and found that it was available so I grabbed it. Not sure if they changed the ID or if this is even possible for a no-longer registered ID, or they contacted eBay, but it became available after I sent them a message.
