Pity watchcount has closed at ebays request. Was excellent to check on non paying bidders to see if they were still active and buying while giving lame excuses or ignoring emails

and of course, I have never helped anyone on these boards, Lyndal?
It is called PRIVACY. A seller has no more right to wade through my, to them, irrelevant purchases than I have to know about theirs.
It used to be easy enough to ask for additional details, item numbers etc but much of that is no longer available....anything that identifies the seller/buyer including item numbers can and often does get removed by the moderators very quickly.
We are not even allowed to post ebay's phone number to help any more.
I did not say you don't help on the boards Amber, but my comment was specifically referring to the AC where Watchcount frequenty came in handy. I used the function there, but hardly ever on the Buying and Selling boards as most of the posters are more aware of the information needed when they ask for help.

everybody should just cool down a bit . . . . I mean, watchcount buyer/bidder history tool has been retired . . . . . but the sun will still rise in the morning, the boards will still exist, we will adapt . . . . . . so no need for angst between eachother over something that ultimately we had no control over.
That search feature has been burried, time to move on.

eBay has limited what can be posted, true. It is still possible to ask for enough to find a specific item. I know you help a great deal Lyn. But, when eBay restricted access to purchases here, there was a reason. Like having a buying history at a retailer. If one could pull up records of purchases at Myer or Target online, with one click, they would be in serious trouble. People have the right to shop privately. Access to everything for the aid of a few is not a valid tradeoff.
I have no issue with an opt-in system. I have a big issue with free access to anyone.

I agree. After the day Mr Tippy had today and even more so one of his colleagues and boss (and indirectly me), it kind of makes you realise that it's not worth worrying over the little things. Take a deep breath. Go outside and look at the moon shining with Jupiter near it tonight (and tomorrow night). Appreciate that you can appreciate it. Enjoy the sunrise in the morning and even more so just before sunrise when 5 planets are visible in the sky, including the usually hard to see Mercury. It could all end abruptly at any time, in the blink of an eye.

Not good to hear about the bad day. Hope your (and hubby's) day is better tomorrow.

our air-conditioning at work is pretty pathetic at the best of times, but in today's 43 degree heat it was better in rooms without air-conditioning. AND GUESS WHAT . . . . . we are forecast for 42 degrees on Wednesday! Yay!
At least I am producing plenty of power from my solar panels, and plenty of hot water from my evacuated tube solar hot water system . . . . . my tank water temperature is running close to 80 degrees just from the sunlight and heat.

I work from home. No aircon running...40 in the shade outside. Oh, and for anyone interested I work in PJs I bought right here on eBay. There...I had the choice to disclose that or not. As it should be.

Bit of a controversial topic of discussion I suppose. Just speaking personally.... I rarely used it (once or twice a year, maybe), and never for non-paying buyers.
I don't think any sellers used it to check out the items, as such. I mean if I really want to I could figure out with near-certainty exactly what a buyer (with public feedback) has bought, but the items themselves are of little to no interest to a seller who's trying to get a feel for a buyer in order to help guide decisions and actions. (Which is not to suggest the Watch Count tool was necessary for that, just helped provide more comprehensive insight).
As a seller who has experienced some truly awful buyer behaviour this year, the worst thing about said experiences was (at the very least the feeling of) being blind and virtually powerless against some of their actions. With the aid of other sellers and some intel gathering not available via eBay, I was able to get myself into a much better position to protect myself from their attempts to sabotage my account.
I looked at various publicy accessible information in order to do that, and I'm not sorry I did.
Will I miss the history tool? No. I'll continue to work the best way I can with whatever tools I get (pun intended
) but I understand why some people will (miss it).

No, that planet and Neptune are setting just after the sun at the moment (you can't see them with the naked eye though).

Thank you. I'll be OK by tomorrow. It might take hubby a bit longer, but he'll be OK.
