You are not talking to eBay here.
Anybody responding to your very light on detail rant are members, similar to yourself.
However, eBay have no way of knowing what condition an item is sent or received in, and can only rely on photos and what the parties to a transaction claim. Of which there are two.
Given eBay heavily favour buyers, it would be pointless for one to wreck an item, when they could probably get it for free anyway.
But that is purely supposition on my part, as neither I nor any other member knows anything about your particular problem.

You would probably be surprised, at what damage can be and is caused in transit. What does the buyer have to gain from damaging the item, when you can simply insist it is returned, before a refund is issued. If the item was at all fragile or valuable, then you should have added extra cover.

Not to mention what couriers will do to items, I sent a waterski to NSW by courier. It was in excellent condition with one very smal ding (which didn’t affect its use). It was well packaged with a stack of bubble wrap. Arrived smashed! In order to put in a claim, Company wanted me to pay $100 excess for the damage they clearly caused 😡😡😡
