What happens to Non Paying Bidders?

I have just filed another NPB on a non paying bidder and when I checked the feedback of this one I see that he has at least three false positives where he has obviously not paid other sellers.

I think that it used to be three strikes and suspension for non paying bidders but another seller told me recently that he thinks that has changed.

Does anyone know if there is a definite policy for NPBs ie if you reach a certain amount of strikes you get suspended?

A feedback comment can be left prior to closing the non-payment dispute.

The comment is not removed and it does not negate the strike that is issued regardless if a comment has been left or not.

What sort of feedback would you leave without knowing whether the bidder/buyer will pay before closing the strike?

"The earner for eBay is the FVF, which you get back if you follow the protocol.  If you put ad in the paper and it does not sell you do not get your money back, and the advertising cost, just for couple of lines would be lot more than few  cents, not to mention photos."

You must advertise in a different paper to me, last time I put an ad in I wasn't charge 9.9% of the price for each item I sold due to that ad.  Ads in papers have nothing to do with the issue and are a completely different form of advertising to eBay, why keep using them as a comparison.

Why keep using newspaper ads as a comparison?  Because before there was eBay that was the way to sell stuff that is now sold here.  Last time I placed advertisement in The Age Classifieds, must be more than 20 years ago, it was about $25 per line (minimum 2 lines) payable up front before the ad came out.  And you are right, if I from the $50 ad sold 10 items it would not have cost any more, but if you sold nothing it was money down the drain.  Alternative was TP and they did charged FVF about 20% or was it 25% (I  never actually used them to sell, just buying), although many people would not tell them that the item sold, but that is fraud.  And to put in a photo was about $100 in that time.

Or you can put as a comparison market stall, which you also pay for regardless whether you sell anything or not.  And I remember when some of my student friends got a stall at Camberwell market to make some much needed money and made less than half of the cost of the stall.  And that did not account for getting there at 4am to make sure they get a stall, carrying everything from the distant car park, cost of petrol etc.

On eBay if you do not sell something you may be out of pocket few cents for listing, if somebody does not pay you get your FVF back, and you can re-list with click of a button; not much effort.

I really do not understand why people who think that the fees here are so exorbitant keep selling here.

Ah, thanks for that, thecatspjs! I just had a look at the feedback of my recent NPB. One has THREE negative comments about non-payment!! Her rating, of course, is 100%! And someone is not issuing strikes, because she got through my blocks. It's probably not a great deal of help to anyone, leaving negative comments when you can only give a positive rating to buyers. I guess if you choose to leave a negative comment, you do it after 4 days have passed, right before you close the case.

Its not an issue Soul, as the time frame between leaving feedback and then closing a case is less than one minute.

I only leave feedback that IMO is within the policy parameters set by ebay.

Your buyer may be one of those who gets strikes removed.

The email a buyer receives notifying them of a strike actually has the link and instructions for having the strike removed.

You click on the link, put in an excuse (anything will do because nobody actually reads it) and press enter, the strike is overturned almost instantly. I dont know exactly how many times you can get away with this before ebay pull you up on it, but i've personally done it twice within a very short timeframe with really weak excuses.

And just to classify what punch has said, she is not a serial non payer.

It was an experiment we did to see exactly what happens and what is sent to the non payer.

Yes and before newspapers there was Town Criers, last time I used one was about 200 years ago.  About as relevant to the issue as newspapers and market stalls.
