I've had to return some poor-quality items to a seller. Paypal says I'll get a refund only after the seller accepts the package back from the post office.
I sent it by registered mail, the cost of which Paypal does not cover.
Anyone know if I have any recourse if the seller simply refuses to take the package?
The same thing happened years ago -- at that time, I was granted a refund when the seller refused to take the package.... but policies change quickly in the trial-and-error world of eBay and Paypal.

Call PP and tell them the seller is refusing to accept it and ask for refund to be issued. If no joy, ask for supervisor

If you look on the site is is showing as package refused?
They may not have been to the PO to pick it up yet either.

Thanks. Well, it's a week since I sent the package from Canberra to Sydney. The Auspost site has been saying it's awaiting collection for several days now.

Have you uploaded the tracking number and paperwork to paypal?
If you have, just ring them and ask them to check on line. Usually they will issue the refund while you are on the phone if they can verify that you have sent it.

Unlike your post, tutank. Spamming the boards will not enamour you to anybody.

Hi - -yes, part of the process was uploading the tracking number to Paypal. I'm not sure if they actually keep an eye on it or not. I'll give them a call in a few days, although speaking to them is never a pleasant experience.

Don't leave it too long or paypal may close the dispute. It is a lot easier to follow it up now than try to persuade them to re-open it.
What have you found to be unpleasant when speaking to them?
I have always found the opposite...never had any problems.
