What is WRONG with Best Match results

Hi

I have been selling on ebay for more then 1 and a half year

The sales was very good(sold about 100 items a day) until july

And it has been going down hill since then (sales has drop 70%)

Many items that was selling alot before has barely sell 1 item per week

Many listing has just suddenly drop the rank and disappear

One of my item that has been on the front page when you search "iphone 4 case" for almost a year

Suddenly today it drop to the third page

I sold almost 30 items of this listing yesterday

And I m not sure why other listing is ranking better then me even thought they sold less

And why some oversea seller is on the front page listing as well since this is a Australian site

Shouldn't best match should rank local item first

So how does the best match works now?? What is the RULES?

It is like law of physics doesn't work you drop something and it start to float upwards!!!!!!!!!

I got 99.8% positive feedback, got 24000 postive feedback, free postage, 30days money back, same business day process order

If this keep going onlike this  I m about to go out of business

Re: What is WRONG with Best Match results

Go into Omniture and check your traffic reports. I hadn't checked mine for a long time even though I knew there was something seriously wrong because of lack of sales. Today I checked and nearly had a heart attack. 12 months ago I was getting in excess of 200 page views/day. This month I have days of 5, 11. Not pretty and I can't see it getting any better. I think I will be taking drastic action very shortly.

Re: What is WRONG with Best Match results

eBay's best match does not make sense at all.

I have been selling cases very well like you but one day all listings drops from front page to 10 or even 20th pages. I sold around 100 items per day but only 1~5 items per day now. Business got ruined. I have been reporting this for eBay for many times since last year but never got a real reply. Only copy and paste, very frustrating.

This happens yesterday as well. When search "iPhone 5C case" all of my items were at front page yesterday (ranked around 20~50) and suddenly drop to 200~500+ today. And I find other seller at the front page even did not sell 1 or 2 cases. My listings just disappeared without any notice or indication. I still cannot figure out what happen now.

I tryed to use my sub account (which is not even a powerseller account) to list some new items and ironnically it appears at front page. So what's the merit of becoming a powerseller? What's the underlying mechanism for best match?

Re: What is WRONG with Best Match results

The underlying reason of your traffic drop is because your items was thrown to 10 or 20 pages away instead of staying at page 1 even though it has a very good sells history. No matter how you do your item keeps staying at the bottom because of best match. I do not understand how this works. I have a item which sold around 3000 and currently it is >1000 ranking when search iPhone 4 crystal case, what a joke. I have not changed anything of the listing and it suddenly drop from page 1 to page 10+.

Re: What is WRONG with Best Match results

I am in the same boat. Until July I had many items on the first page and a couple in the top 10 on page 1. Then suddenly, all of my listings were not even on the first 20 pages. I just posted something about this here -> http://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Selling/Best-Match-is-certainly-discriminatory/m-p/686853#U686853

Re: What is WRONG with Best Match results

Isnt BEST MATCH totally dependent on the BUYERS search settings not the SELLERS ?

No.

Best Match isn't about buyer preferences at all. Cassini - the search engine that alters results on an individual basis - is supposed to be....in theory, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Best Match itself, as a standalone ranking system without the effect of Cassini, is based on seller and listing performance, many of which have never been explicitly detailed.
