What is the best way to display clothes ?

Just looking for opinions please.

I am just selling stuff from around the house including clothes my daughter no longer wears/wants.  I purchased a second-hand mannequin for $50 to sell clothes. She has a few scars but she serves the purpose. I haven't measured the mannequin but I am guessing she is about a size 8. Some of the clothes I am selling range from size 10 to 18, the larger sizes mostly being tops. My mannequin isn't as well endowed in the chest area as my daughter. If pants/shorts are too big around the waist, I use a bulldog clip to cinch them in for photos. I include flat lay measurements on all my listings.

Do you think this is ok or should I not use the mannequin ?

The big questions is whether you would pay extra to a seller for using a mannequin. If the item is higher priced a seller can justify their time with out passing on the cost. But on a $10-$15 item I don't think a buyer expects it to be displayed this way so unless the seller enjoys dressing mannequins for something to do whats the point.

I checked the sold lists and it is a mix of different display methods used and my take is design and colour would be the most important things a buyer looks at.

Its all about presentation,  a mannequin displays the item better,  hanging on a hanger or laying on the floor just looks shocking.

I agree but if you are selling low value items you will make more money for your time churning out listings.

I am one of the worst when it comes to over buying stock and so many times I have just thrown listings up due to lack of time and thought I will go back later to fix and they sell in the first week.

I don't think a buyer would pay extra to a seller for using a mannequin as such, but I do believe first impressions count and even on a $10-$15 item, it has to appeal to the buyer before they will buy it.

Doesn't mean it has to be on a mannequin, it could be hung nicely against a neutral background.

But if the mannequin makes it look better & if a seller has the time, then it may not take a lot of extra effort to whip a top onto the mannequin. It may help to make the item sell faster.

Having said that, I have bought clothes on ebay that have been shown flat or hanging but those sellers (I suspect) took a little time to arrange them nicely to catch the eye. Most baby clothes and children's clothes wouldn't fit on a mannequin anyway.

Cant work this comment out,  you werent happy in another thread to take 2 seconds to copy and paste the header into the text.  But you will happily list an item,  with the intention of going back and ''later fix'' which would involve another photo and editing the listing.

Do it properly the first time,  I just dressed a Mannequin and compared it to hanging on a coat hanger or throwing it on the floor.

Mannequin 1 minute 11 seconds.   Coat hanger 1 minute 2 seconds,   throw on floor (with some finesse) 53 seconds.  Yes I was bored at 5am this morning

I know which I would prefer.  PS editing a listing most likely 5 minutes, but that is a guess not a scientific test.

Well, that had me grinning โ€ฆ the mannequin, the hanger and the finessed floor routine.

I don't sell clothes but my sister does and I have had this discussion for 10 years or more with her so I do find this topic interesting. I suppose if I where to sell clothes I would be going for vintage designer with a higher price point so could justify the time in presentation.

But if I was a low priced clothing seller where you need to sell volume to make an income I would do the bare minimum needed and concentrate on buying the best items I can find.  Same as clearing out clothes from home for a few extra dollars.

I have some items I will just grab a photo from google copy a title and just change a few words to make it look different. I will do this when I only have a few listings to do and don't want to spend time setting up my photo area. Then place the items in a box and when the box is full go back and complete photos for all of them in one go and anything else I think may help before taking to my warehouse for storage.

For me I will include much of the title in the description and the item specifics so that's 3 times most of it is mentioned. But I don't sell used clothing but do know they need to do a ton of listings to make an income if they are selling low value items.

If I look at where I spend the most time towards ebay it is picking up stock. That would average 10 hours a week, then listings 2 hours a week and packing parcels 5-7 hours a week. I have many items with a large quantity so one listing can last years with over 500 sales. This will explain why I don't spend a lot of time listing.

Yes I have several which have being running for years, just checked my top seller has over 2000 sold, just keep adding more stock to it and occasional postage or other minor detail updates.  Nice and simple
