What is the valid format for a starting price? What form does it take?

I am trying to sell a motor bike.  No matter in which form of dollars I put in as starting price and reserve price, it keeps getting rejected with the message " Please enter a valid value " 

How should I express $50.00 as a  valid  value for starting price and reserve price?

I assume you have tried leaving off the "$" sign?

if your start price is $50, and your Reserve price is $50, you do not need a reserve!  Your start price will be your reserve price by default as your item will sell if it gets just one bid.
