As already had similar. Buyer is claiming its broken and not working and has sent quite a rude email demanding a refund by Monday. He only has 3 feedbacks (albeit positive) and says until he has money back in account he won't send it back. I'm so surprised it would be broken as it was still taped in packaging - how do I know he doesn't just want if anymore and broke if, or worse if I send $ back he won't send item. What is the policy here? What's your advice and experiences as i haven't had issues before. Thanks

No item, no refund. ๐
The correct procedure has always been to return the item before a refund can (or will) be issued, unless the seller is prepared to refund without return.
If they open a case, neither PayPal nor eBay should grant a refund unless the item has been returned (I say should because eBay's Money Back Guarantee is still in its early stages and there seems to be some teething problems).

Agree with the others totally. You can almost guarantee that if you refund, you wont see the item again. Tell him to follow the correct procedure. If he is genuine, he will follow it.

If he does send it back, open it in front of a witness in case he sends back something other than your iPod. If he sends you a rock and you can't prove he sent you a rock, eBay will still make you refund his money.

He also has to send it back with tracking so delivery can be proved.

In addition to that, I've read recommendations on these boards to open the parcel in front of an AP worker as witness. I think that's a good idea, it might be seen that a friend would be willing to say anything to help you.

It's a crying shame that things have deteriorated to this level but eBay continually turn a blind eye to the fact that the place has become infested with scammers and thieves, and the sad fact is that buyers can no longer be trusted.
