What the .... WHY?

The message reads.

From early 2013, all sellers will be required to upload at least one picture for each listing. Pictures will need to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side however we recommend 1600 pixels as a minimum length so you can take full advantage of eBay picture services including Supersize. Other picture requirements to be introduced next year include the removal of text and borders (watermarking will continue to be allowed).

Oh come on! My Pics work fine!

My pics are smaller for good reason.

They load quicker, and any bigger they will be too slow for some computers.

ALSO

Any finer size and it means someone else can copy the pic with good pixels.

I don't want my pics copied! I work hard on taking photo's and reconfiguring them to be just right for my listings.

I don't want to have to re-load more defined pics of everything!

Grrrr!

Re: What the .... WHY?

Uniformity annie, they are looking for uniformity - eBay is no longer just a venue, it will soon be 'the new Amazon' - I think my pic's are just fine too X-(

Re: What the .... WHY?

It won't necessarily be the same here, but when this was introduced in the US, existing listings with undersized images weren't required to upload a new image in the required size unless the listing was revised (for any reason / change).

Re: What the .... WHY?

Digital, thanks for the heads-up, but I don't think it will help much.

I make a point of revising my listings every so often, and I often let them run out and then re-list, as I find new listings get better sales.

Why should E-bay care how bad a seller pics are? The seller is the one trying to sell the stuff.

Re: What the .... WHY?

Not that my pics are bad to start with, I think they are pretty good in general.

Re: What the .... WHY?

I'm not even sure how to adjust the pixels, I tried when turbo gave my the little exclamation mark saying hey you can use more but nothing seemed to work.

My pictures still looked the same and I still got the same notice.

I have just been ignoring it but if my pixels aren't the right size they will probably give me a hard time about that!

Back to the drawing board....

Re: What the .... WHY?

down load free version photoshop - you can do whatever you want to your photo's and it will be fine - a lot of work, but ps is a real easy fix if you need to do it in a hurry.

don't take life too seriously.......it's not permanent

Re: What the .... WHY?

You can increase the size of an image (which in turn increases the pixels, as that refers to the size of the image), but to do so often means poorer image quality.

The best thing to do is either set your camera to take images of a certain size, while allowing enough for trims etc to be made. Basic image editing is quite easy and there are a lot of free software programs out there that will allow you to crop and resize images before uploading them. (If anyone would like to know how to do it in either Microsoft Paint or Photofiltre, I'll post some quick instructions here - I usually take images the maximum size my camera allows, which gives me a picture about 3800 x 2700 pixels before editing, then I frame a square image and crop the excess, then resize to a 1000 x 1000 pixel image to make full use of the gallery image.

For some other photo editing tips, like how to remove backgrounds using Photofiltre, syrupsmummy posted this great tutorial a few months ago: http://community.ebay.com.au/topic/Selling/Background-Listing-Pictures/500153202?start=0

The orange flag will appear on any image that doesn't have a side that is at least 1000 pixels, so even if you have a 500 x 500 pixel image you'll still get the note saying it's not to eBay's recommended size.

Re: What the .... WHY?

Mine are roughly 800 x 1200 and Turbolister still gives me the flag because eBay recommend at least 1600 on one side.

I'll stick with my way. For mmpbs, I scan and reduce to 90%. Cuts the size down, so faster loading and plenty of clarity. They're books.
