Why can't buyers show the common courtesy of leaving reciprocal feedback for their eBay purchases.

I have sold a number of items recently. I have contacted buyers to find out if the items arrived safely and if they were happy with their purchase. 'Yes' and 'yes' they reply, but many of them fail to submit any feedback and thus my feedback score suffers. Why can't people display common courtesy and leave reciprocal feedback if they are happy with their purchases??

Re: Why can't buyers show the common courtesy of leaving reciprocal feedback for their eBay purchase

In both our stores the feedback metric is now down to 10%.  Only one buyer in ten sales leaves us feedback.  Feedback to sellers is far more important than to buyers.  It is a measure for your business about customer service.

We leave feedback for buyers one month after purchase, to make sure everything went right with the sale.  We adopted this timeframe after handing out good feedback to buyers then have them turn around and 'kick us in the guts'.

I like the way Taobao gives automatic feedback to both buyers and sellers if neither has left feedback after 30 days and I think eBay should adopt that practice.

I do like reading all the negative feedback on the big box Chinese sellers !

I wonder if Bunnings had a feedback kiosk / person outside their exit doors, what would it show ?  Would make a lot of sense.

No I don't think automatic feedback is a good idea at all.     Sometimes I don't leave any feedback for a purchase - it may be because the experience was poor but I don't want to penalise them too much - occasionally  I email the seller and explain why I chose to give no feedback.

One particular example is I frequently get books that are extremely dirty - I mean the dusty kind of dirty.    I have never understood why a seller can't be bothered wiping their item down at the very least.    So technically, their description was okay, and - after I get the grunge off - the condition is as described - so it doesn't really deserve a neg - but I'm too disgusted to give a positive.
