Why have I had 24 bids on my auction listing but the base price hasn't shifted?

I have listed my iPhone 5s for auction at a starting price of $700. I have since had 24 bids but the price has stayed the same at $700? I've never listed anything for auction before so not sure if this is normal? Thanks 🙂

This is likely to be the start of a non paying bidder, or a nigerian scam, I would recomend cancelling the bids and see what the result is.

24 bids is just plain scamming. It is a common trick to scare someone off knowing that they will not be likely to win it under about $1.000 dollars so they will not bother bidding.

If you are happy to accept $700.00 and hope it is not a scammer then you can see the auction out but have a look at the buyers feedback to see what they do normally. If there are any false positives or minimal feedback just cancel their bids.

I am suffering about 10% non paying bidders nowadays and these are the type of people who  cause those problems.

I had a non paying bidder on a phone two weeks ago , am still waiting for the Nigerian , non communicative, non paying, no longer a member of Ebay, process to finish so I can relist the phone and hopefully make some money.

You can check where the bidder is registered by looking at the feedback and if it is a suss country just bail out now.

If you have a look at the listing this bidder has been outbid at the moment. And OP will be the one that can have a look at the bidders history and judge for themself whether to cancel the bids if it looks sus that the bidder might not pay.It won't matter if the bidder isn't above board as you don't send anything that you have sold until you receive payment for it.

I have noticed that this bidder is bidding on 8 different phone listings at the moment, but the bidder has a 100% feedback so I think the bidder is fair dinkum and by putting in so many bids at once the bidder is trying to keep other bidders at bay but it hasn't worked for them price wise as they have been out bid.

Hi Zelly, I was just answering the last response. Sorry I have looked now at how to answer a quote more directly.

I was suggesting as well that the OP should check out the bidder.

I disagree with the comment about suss bidders not mattering as I am still waiting for a suss bidder to respond so the phone I hoped to sell two weeks ago can not be relisted yet unless I am willing to pay 21 dollars commission.
The other problem with waiting and then making a second chance offer is that many people do not accept second chance offers so it is often a waste of time as well.

And now there are three bidders on this phone with seven days to go it will be interesting to see if there are any bid retractions.

I need a new phone.

But it will be a new phone from a reputable B&M. With a postpaid plan. Not online.

Buying a phone online through a phone company eg/vodafone,optus,telstra is also as safe as a B & M store and you also get a better deal.

The deals are the same. Online means I have to wait for delivery, instead of walking into the shop and just swapping the SIM.
