Why have I had 24 bids on my auction listing but the base price hasn't shifted?

I have listed my iPhone 5s for auction at a starting price of $700. I have since had 24 bids but the price has stayed the same at $700? I've never listed anything for auction before so not sure if this is normal? Thanks
