Wow China has shocked me

I thought Aus post was bad having the extra days during the Christmas/new year hols but I forgive them the Chinese New Year starts on the 7th until the 14th but it seems most Chinese manufacturers are already starting to party. I have spent the whole day trying to get some items I need but everyone is sending the same answers no items will be dispatched until after the hols 16th 😞 Looks like I may be taking a break to.

Re: Wow China has shocked me

I love how people migrate here then bag the lifestyle out. I work with a few of those. If the mother land is so great, there are several flights a day heading in that direction.

While you're sleeping in your comfy bed, or out enjoying yourself of a weekend, I'm slaving my guts out. Maybe you should suggest that AP operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year like I do. Then you'll be whinging because the price of postage goes up because of all the extra staff they have to employ and the penalty rates they'd have to pay. Sure, it would be very convenient for me to do my posting at 3am, but I would never expect anyone to change to suit my needs.

It would also be more convenient for me to do my banking at 3am on a Sunday morning, should banks be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year too?

As for me getting a picnic day, all that means for me is I get paid public holiday rates because I WORK on my picnic day. Why shouldn't AP get that extra day? They work hard all year too. Plenty of industries get a picnic day every year, if you don't get one, that's not our problem.

As for public holidays, This year England has 8. I'm in NSW and we have 10. The only reason we have 2 more is because ANZAC Day is a PH and Christmas Day being on a Saturday is a public holiday. The Monday is also a public holiday due to the main day falling on a weekend. It looks like England only has the Monday as a PH, but I highly doubt there will be much open on the Saturday, so you could say that it's still a day off, so they technically have 9.

You in Qld get 12 public holidays, so even with my picnic day, I'm still one day down on what you get. Until you start working all weekend, all night and nearly every public holiday, you have no right to begrudge others who do having an extra PH. When the Queen checks out, no doubt we'll lose that public holiday, so we'll then be on par with the motherland.

As for the Chinese New Year, they've been celebrating that for thousands of years. I highly doubt they're going to change because a few eBay sellers in Australia want to buy stuff. If you had no idea they'd be out of action for so long, you must have been living under a rock. Even if they did post today, the mail is still going to sit at the docks for 2 weeks, so it's better for all if they don't post until after the festivities.

I think you and Lymdai are making my point thank you. The Chinese New year starts on the 7th now that is when I would expect it to start not the 1st but going by the fuss being kicked up by you 2 I can see why employers are forced to give extra days and the key word is EXTRA it is not a holiday it should NOT be entitled to it is a BONUS but seems you think it should be a right. Well while YOU take them extra days off a company loses money but hell why should you care about that?

The fact is if a holiday starts on the 7th that is the day I would expect to start not the 6th not the 5th and damn right not the 1st as is happening in China. I will repeat again Aussie taking EXTRA days off does not shock me because that is the Aussie way (and you are making it clear demanded by people) but China doing now that does shock me because I would not of seen that as part of their culture.

Re: Wow China has shocked me

What part of I work public holidays did you not understand? I even work Christmas day while you are off enjoying yourself with family. My bonus is if I actually manage to get a public holiday off, which is rare.

If the Chinese want to start their celebrations early, that's their call. As I said, they're not going to change their way purely because YOU couldn't get your act together and order early. There is no point posting today or tomorrow if the mail is going to sit in the docks for 2 weeks. There is more chance of stuff getting lost or stolen. I had an order posted today, normally takes 7-10 days from that seller, I'm not expecting it inside 3 weeks. Why? Because I know how they operate. It's been no different for hundreds of years, way before you started selling on eBay.

When you start working every public holiday, including Christmas Day and New Years Day, then you have a right to complain about the amount of days off others get. Until then......... As for demanding other countries change purely because YOU want them to, good luck with that one.

DHL are working until guess when? yes that is right until the holidays start so I am not sure what you are going on about if I could of found someone to deliver I would of had the stuff before the holidays even started.

Demand a country changes where did I do that? I said I am shocked Chinese factories close a week before the holiday starts. I was not shocked at Aussie doing it

And as far as working public holidays I have been self employed most of my life and work 7 days a week 365 days a year so stop the hissy fit all I said is Aussie love thier EXTRA days off for free poor employers have to dish out all that cash for nothing.

PS guess what I spent Christmas day and also New years eve/day doing? that's right working lol

I am not making any comment about the Chinese holidays....they are nothing to do with me here in Australia.

What I am saying is that the ONE extra holiday that AP employees got between Christmas and New Year is mandated in their award.  They did not demand it, they were not "given" it as a bonus day off....it is part of the award wages and conditions that AP employees work under.

Almost every industry that works under award conditions have a Picnic Day in that award....financial services have Bank Holiday in August where only banks and financial services are closed.  Tippy has said her award grants a Picnic Day.  Retail employees have an award day off and those that work are paid penalty rates in lieu of the day off.

Just for your information, StarTrack which is owned by AP did not get the day off....the contractors who worked were paid extra.  Not sure how much they were paid as my OH was on annual holidays so was not affected.

But Aussies didn't do it. They don't do it. They work up until their shift finishes before the weekend or public holiday. I don't know of any industry who shuts a week before a holiday, just because there is a holiday or celebration coming up. If you know of anyone, please enlighten me. If you are referring to the AP picnic day, that is one DAY, not one week.

I never said Aussie stop a week before I said I was shocked Chinese factories have shut a week early seems a lot closed at the weekend and the new year does not start until next week, After seeing the chaos caused by people going home I understand why but still a little shocked by it

Of course DHL are working up to the CHinese New Year holidays and probably right through them as well.  They are an international company and service the whole world so holidays in just one country are not going to make much difference to their operations.
The holidays would be observed in whatever country they apply but that will not affect their operations in other countries.
Not much you can tell me about being self employed...both my OH and I have been self employed for nearly 40 years and we have also been employers as well.
We don't get paid for holidays.....public or annual, no superannuation, no sick leave, none of the perks of being employed.
