Ha ha, that is a new one
.

Buyer: "I mistakenly clicked on the payment button, I do not need this product, could you return the money to me!"
Seller: "Alright [...] appreciated if you tell us why you mistakenly paid for the item and then cancelled."
Buyer: "my phone fell from my hands during the fall I accidentally pressed the button with my hand."
Oh dear. Did the buyer's phone fall several times? Once when s/he hit and once when payment method was selected, again with the login to PayPal, and finally the confirmation of payment?
Ouch (for the phone).

As a long time seller I've had plenty of these lame excuses. However I did once almost 'pocket buy' something on eBay. I was one click away from purchase (but making payment is another thing).

It might be a bit slower, but it's definitely a lot safer on many levels.
Wish Ebay would stop asking us if we wanted it EVERY time we buy something - that just adds another step to the transaction.

I personally wish there was a way to convey to buyers that I don't care how / why the purchase was made, and / or why they want to cancel, as it's completely irrelevant to me - at best convoluted excuses are amusing, at worst they're lame and obviously a lie so just makes the buyer look bad. (i.e. don't send me excuses or reasons, just send me the request to cancel, and it shall be done....as long as the purchases hasn't already been posted).

The sellers' prayer
Our buyer
who art on eBay
100% be thy feedback.
Thy transaction come,
Thy cancellation be done
in thy PayPal account as it is in Seller Hub.
Give us this day thy daily excuse
and forgive us our Unpaid Item reports,
as we forgive those who change their minds against the item;
And lead us not into much incredulity
but deliver us from non-delivery,
For thine is the kitten, the sick relative and the little child
Who for ever and ever have caused the sale or prevented payment,
Amen.
(No disrespect intended whatsoever to the original Lord's Prayer.)

There once was a buyer whose fingers did roam
All over the keypad on her new phone
When her fingers hit buy
She let out a great cry
But it was the poor seller who loudest did groan
