.There is so much stuff n there at just give away prices if you prepared to get of your **bleep** and buy in person (bit like old trading post days ) Ebay advertising on TV ....well that sums it up in my opion
I have looked at my local Facebook BSS sites for a while and the only stuff I see that is at “give away” prices is rubbish. Sure, there are some good items at good prices but the cheap stuff is, well, cheap stuff!
BSS is no good for sellers wanting to reach an Australia wide audience. Also, if I looked at BSS sites that are interstate and negotiated with a seller from those sites I would not have buyer protection for INR and SNAD claims.

I am a member of 3 or 4 Facebook BSS sites, and have sold precisely zero after listing for several weeks. Mostly items too heavy or bulky to post. Gumtree is no better, although some years ago I had great success on there. ebay sales over 2 IDs have dropped to around 50% with gaps of up to a week between sales on one ID, and 4 days on average on the other.

What about those of us that think Facebook is a soul-sucking hellhole and deactivated? 😛
I used to be a member of a Facebook group like that. The amount of people that wasted others' time (including mine) by posting "SOLD", when they were merely hedging their bets just in case they wanted the item, was too much to bear. One of the final nails in the coffin for FB for me, in fact. I'm glad you're having success though!

This massive sales decline is NOT just here .... It's Retail Bricks & Mortar too . I would have a many orders from the retail stores we supply by this time of year but these no's are waayyyyyy down! The buyers are saying it's been their worst few months ever!! This was after one of my best Christmases ever.... So I think it's across all selling platforms soooo.... Don't think u can really blame EBay!

March has been a very solid month for our ebay sales and today I just had my best ebay sale ever. I purchased an item in a box of junk at a farm clearing sale for $2 last week. I had my suspicians it was a bit special and some research proved this to be correct. I listed it for auction on ebay and it sold tonight for well over $400.00........
With another auction item from the same sale making a bit over $60 and a few regular sales through the stores its been a pretty good day.
I also purchased a number of rare books for $60 from an op-shop on the weekend and have a couple of these listed for $300 each. ( I havnt got around to listing them all yet ) I had an enquiry tonight asking if I would consider a reasonable offer on one of them. If I can sell that one it will make for an interesting and fun week on ebay.

chameleon54, that sounds like an astonishing piece of luck and knowledge. It does seem that occasionally an item listed for sale on eBay is like a suddenly dug-up treasure.

There was a fair element of luck to it. My wife was not impressed with the idea of me going to the sale as I have been buying a heap of stock lately. ( the country seems to be awash with cheap stuff at the moment ), but I chose to go anyway. ( Crazy, brave or stupid ???? ) I went to the sale specifically to buy two highly specialised, collectable items that where advertised. I phoned the owner before the sale to see if he had any other items related to those advertised. NO was the answer only the two.
Some-one else with a much bigger wallet than mine had also come to the sale specifically to buy the two items and I missed out. But while fossicking around in the boxes of junk lined up, I spied what I thought might be an extra piece of the puzzle. No-one else noticed it, so my $2 bid won the box. My initial thought was it was probably worth $150 but after research I listed it for auction at a $250 start bid. 18 watchers and several bids later it eventually sold for well over $400
It has proven to be a very profitable clearing sale day as another $10 purchase sold yesterday for $175 and an $8 item again sold yesterday for $75. I have barely scratched the surface of listing the clearing sale items and there is still plenty of gems to go, so it should be a fun few weeks. I,m already looking for the next sale to attend....... If I can find any storage space in the shed and the wife lets me off the lead....

Sounds like your category is on FIRE ! Chameleon... Fun for you for sure!! Not so fun for us in the doldrums sales areas.... Oh well - swings & roudabouts but yr story gives us hope that it will pick up! Have noticed the antique silver has had a resurgence... I had a fair few pieces but now sold them all-But they had been sitting there for about 2 yrs ... Until late last year & they all sold in a short period! I'm still perfecting a handcrafted range of items that I will sell ( hopefully) here soon.... In a different but matching category that hopefully help my throttling problem! Something like lights on lights off is definitely happening as I only get sales on the same days each week !

Also meant to say ... Insnt it fun finding things in bulk boxes at auctions... My brother has a luck doing this! He goes to some country auctions near him, gets job lot boxes with costume jewellery... And I get the job of looking thru them & there's always a few heavy silver pieces & often a gold chain or brooch etc amongst the useless stuff! Lucky me! As I get the job then of cleaning them up! Woop for me! Yay!😩

How hard is it to give a blind lady the slip, unless she sets her dog onto you?
