a question about fundraising

Hello,

I would like to organise a fundraiser similar to one I participated in a few years ago. People were invited to list items on their own ebay accounts using a key phrase in the titles (Handmade Help) and then they donated the proceeds from their auctions to the cause we were supporting. It was easy to search for participating auctions using the key words, and various blogs also created lists of links.

My question is, what would be the rules of this kind of project in terms of meeting legal requirements and ebay's rules? Would it be sufficient for the organisation we support to write a letter of authorisation that would cover all willing participants in the project, and then for all of us to include their charity number in our auctions?

I would be so grateful for any help with this.

Requirements for Charity Listings

  • Sellers may only list items on behalf of a registered charity if that registered charity has already provided the seller with written authorisation to collect charitable funds on their behalf.

  • If the seller has valid written authorisation from a registered charity then the seller must display such an authorisation in their listing.

  • If the registered charity is listing the item, the organisation’s charity number must be included in the listing.

  • The seller’s listing must comply with all applicable conditions of the written authorisation.

I have done this several times

Thank you so much for replying azureline, and so speedily too!

When you have done thisin the past, was it possible for the charity to authorise participating sellers without naming all of them? I.e. rather than saying 'azureline is authorised....' to say 'all participating sellers are authorised....'?

Mine was specific and had my own name on it. It was for Cancer Council. So, you need to be prepared to be identified.

Best of luck with it.

Oh okay. Thanks again for your reply, but my question was about a different kind of fundraiser, with lots of participants using their own ebay accounts. I wondered if there were possibilities for a charity authorising that kind of approach, with a more general form of authorisation.

I don't think so, unless you set up an account that can be used for just that. I made a new one with a different id.
