buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

Hi,

Still pretty new to selling

Would appreciate advice - I"m in a bit of a temper.

Recently sold a shirt for $15 with RRp about $130. Clearly stated in listing I would send signed for ....or if buyer was willing to carry the risk send by regular  mail at 8,25 if they paid by bank deposit. And I offerred local pick up.( when I composed the listing I thought shirt woudl sell for more)

I added a note before acution end = saying I  had  discovered I had overquoted post prices  -  lowered the signed for price to $10.50 and the regular parcel to $7.80. - I realise buyer mightn'y have seen this, - but still in the original lilsting was the postage option of $8.25

Only one bidder on the item -it ran for 10 days - she watched it nearly the whole time.

Waits 3 days after auctoin end,  then emails saying she lives in the same city as me therefore I should make postage lower, it should only be $8.

( Yes, this is an option I have already provided) completely ignores the signed for component - want to pay the $8 but by paypal so if the item goes missing - or she says she hasnt' recieved it - I'm up for refunding the cost of the shrt and the postage

What I REALLY want to do is just cancel the sale and give her the money back - didn't like the tone of her email - dont' trust her-  I gues I'm over reacting a bit

If she had asked duriing one of the 10 days before acution ended, I wouldnt'be so cross or suspicious This is the 3rd buyer to do this to me after auction ends trying to wriggle out of the extra $3 for signed for, but dont' want to pay by bank deposit

Advice??

Many thanks

Hi,

Recently sold a shirt for $15 *High Five, Way to go!* with RRp about $130.That happens. Always start your auction at the lowest price that you are pr4paredf to accept for the item.

Clearly stated in listing I would send signed for ....or if buyer was willing to carry the risk send by regular  mail at 8,25 if they paid by bank deposit. Can't make a buyer pay by Bank Deposit, you HAVE to accept PayPal if that's how they want to pay. Also, the risk is not theirs, it is yours, so of course they don't want to pay for your insurance. If you want the insurance, don't give them a choice.

And I offerred local pick up.( when I composed the listing I thought shirt woudl sell for more) You have actually offered Cash On Delivery, which is VERY different to Cash on Pick Up - and comparatively, very expensive.

I added a note before acution end = saying I  had  discovered I had overquoted post prices  -  lowered the signed for price to $10.50 and the regular parcel to $7.80. - I realise buyer mightn'y have seen this, - but still in the original lilsting was the postage option of $8.25

( Yes, this is an option I have already provided) completely ignores the signed for component - want to pay the $8 but by paypal so if the item goes missing - or she says she hasnt' recieved it - I'm up for refunding the cost of the shrt and the postage Yes. So this is YOUR insurance, not the buyers, see above.

What I REALLY want to do is just cancel the sale and give her the money back - didn't like the tone of her email - dont' trust her- Please don't do that without going through the correct processes. You cannot just decide to terminate a contract. That's illegal.

I gues I'm over reacting a bit

sort of, but you're new, so unsure of what's going on. Over reacting's a given when that's the situation LOL

If she had asked duriing one of the 10 days before acution ended, I wouldnt'be so cross or suspicious This is the 3rd buyer to do this to me after auction ends trying to wriggle out of the extra $3 for signed for, but dont' want to pay by bank deposit

Advice? You really need to simplfy your instructions for payment - was like reading War and Peace. Keep it simple.

Learn how to list Pick up Only, unless you really do mean you want to offer COD

I would choose a postage method that i am comfortable with and just stick to that as the base line. Offer things such as COD or Express or whatever as an additional cost. Don't start high and offer opportunity to negotiate down. Most people will.

If you feel most comfortable offering SOD, then list like that as a starting point. Don't offer an opt out.

Yourt buyers aren't at fault here, it is your inexperience,

but it's ok, this stuff gets easier, just seems hard when you first start, but after a while, you'll find your stride.

best of luck

If she is in the same city, perhaps a Pick up may be possible ? Just a thought.  🙂

You can't demand bank deposit no matter what reason or offer you make it subject to, you must allow the buyer to pay with paypal.

I would adivse the buyer that the end price including postage is firm as advertsied and accepted by purchasing, and tell them if they wish to cancel that you can send them a 'mutual cancellation' they they need to accept to release you both from the contract.

If they do agree, re-list and start your auction at a price you are happy to receive if you only get one bid.

As to postage - as far as I know you do not need signed for (proof of delivery) only proof of postage (receipt showing post code item was sent to) for paypal protection.

Re: buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

My first thought is that if you are worried then don't make the 'signature' optional. Just build it into the cost and don't give the buyers a choice.

Secondly, you are supposed to start an auction at the lowest price you will accept. It sounds like you are suspicious of the buyer but also regret selling it for such a low price. So trying to cancel the sale is a no no. Especially if you are then going to re-list it for a higher price.

My advice is to grit your teeth, send the shirt at the lower postge cost, which was an option you gave buyers on the item, and then learn from the experience.

Re: buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

I'm almost certain that paypal does NOT accept this - regular post with the postcode showing - needs to be signed for or regisited - unless the rules have recently changed- o know from the reverse situation as a buyer -when a parcel hasn't arrived - regular post - and the payment has been deducted from the seller despite them having a proof of postage with postcode showing

$15 was the minimum I was prepared to accept - I'm not quibbling re sale price at all.. Just saying when I stipulated signed for it was because I thought that the biddiing would go much higher and wanted the protection of signed for
I'm not DEMANDING bank deposit.
I offer paypal - at a signed for price.
If they would like a reg post price and are happy to pay by bank deposit - I can offer it at 7.20
Buyers choice.
Very clear on the listing.
what she is trying to do is regular post price and paypal after the auction has ended. And rudely

Re: buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

perhaps click and send is an option for sending

from other  posts about it, seller has paypal  protection & it is about the same cost as  regular post.

You may keep having problems with buyers if you continue to try and force buyers into paying by bank deposit. They choose, not the seller.

If you do this after August when new sellers standards come in, then your seller rating most likely will be affected negatively.
If the seller choses to cancel a sale because they no longer want to send the item ( i,e. It didn't sell for as much as they expected or they don't have the item in stock).

Re: buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

you really need to stop giving buyers ''choices''  YOU are the seller, YOU make the rules.

a buyer pays with paypal and has full buyer protection they do NOT need to pay extra for 'signature' as it only protects YOU the seller (thru apaypal seller protection).

dont offer choices, make up your mind how YOU want to send item and only quote that as postage.

simple

Re: buyers quibbling about postage rates after auction has ended

Simply allow the buyer to use PayPal and send the parcel using Click & Send which satisfies PayPals requirements .

If you do it tonight it is still $7.15 but as from tomorrow I believe it goes to $8.00 .

Either way using Click & Send via your ebay account is far better then messing around with dfferent postage methods
