Once again - its great to hear the advice & thoughts of u helpful posters like Dazzledayz & Chameleon (how's those lil lambs going?- what a great diversion!) Other wise we may just all go crazy, trying to figure out how to increase sales. Well I'm going to try the suggestions of selling in a 2nd category. I'll keep you updated here. I wont be giving up because I now actually like selling on Ebay- & I'm pleasantly surprised how the majority of people are honest & decent. The few that arent - well.... they there for a bit of comical relief. As are some of the usual comedians that post their witty repartee here on this selling board (yrselves included?). Specially the comebacks brought on by that annoying "Erg- Auto" or whatever his Id is. Hope he doesnt read this

I'd be very interested in knowing how this works out for you - good luck with it and best wishes for some success!

Silver, just be aware that if you choose to advertise in a second category on one listing, e.g a 100yo antique dresser, which you put into the antique category and furniture category, you are charged for the second category. I can't remember how much it is, but something is telling me it's $2.95. That becomes chargeable each time the item relists.

I should clarify my last post.
I wasn't suggesting listing one item in multiple categories; I was suggesting that a second line of products in a new category could prove beneficial.
ie you would get an additional share of a different categories sales to add to the share you have from your original category.
This seems to pan out in the media categories where books appear to be counted seperately to CD's and DVD's.

If you don't mind the unsolicited suggestions.... I'd start by branching out into some of the other sub-categories in your main ones. In this case, it's jewellery, so I'd be looking at things like storage and display (trinket/jewellery boxes, earring trees and the like), cleaning products etc, plus maybe a few fashion accessory type items (keyrings, for example, can go into a couple of different categories).

Any advice is appreciated Digi (you are Digi arent you?)... Well that was EXACTLY my train of thought too, listing jewellery storage ideas etc. THEN I realized they are probably treated as tho in the same category- I think!! When you go to list them -they are in a sub category for Jewellery, so that wouldnt be selling in a different category- would it ?
I'm wondering if I can list them in House & Garden, Home Decor, Other category do you think thats allowed??? I was looking for storage section - but there doesnt seem to be one. Anywhooo... I'm definitely starting a second category of listing to see how it goes with increasing sales.
On that point too -at least the election is nearly here & I do believe things will go back to normal after that cos sales have been the worse I've seen in soooo long!! ever since the election was called. In other words they'll go back to being bad instead of really, really bad!

I'm all manner of things... (Or, you can call me pretty much anything as long as it isn't too crude).
The different category may or may not affect your exposure, at this point the idea that listing in different categories will allow for better exposure due to eBay's manipulation / throttling (as opposed to just having more listings with a wider variety) is an unprovable hypthesis (I'm not saying that it isn't plausible, nor that it doesn't have any merit, but it would be very difficult to prove one way or another from the seller's standpoint, simply because if you have a wider variety of items in a range of categories, increased exposure would be expected, and if the items are still actually related in some way, you also get some cross-promotion happening).
I sell jewellery as well, and branched out into craft supplies, so almost all of my listings are in a sub-category of the Jewellery main category (primarily Handcrafted Jewellery, Jewellery Design & Repair, and Fashion Jewellery, but I have the odd thing listed in fashion accessory categories). These are all fairly highly saturated categories, so I've tried to be as niche as I can without being too obscure, and I am constantly looking for related items that continue to expand my range, so a lot of my previous suggestions are the kind of items I look at, too... (But don't really stock as yet, mostly because I've built up a bit of a theme / brand, so I want the things I do get to "feel" in line with that and so far, all the items I've found are either wooden, which I'm a bit reluctant to import, or just a tad expensive for me right now... ).
But, even though in eBay category terms my listings are in a fairly narrow spectrum, and I'm listing in categories with some of the highest numbers for total listings, I have tons of different kinds of items and, although I do have some quiet times (some very quiet times), my store is never really totally dead.
....if that helps, at all. o_O
