eBay Packing Tape is getting incredibly expensive

As I write this 11 bidders have bid $61 for two rolls of eBay branded tape located in Australia. The cheapest seems to be $10.22 per roll plus $28.95 from the USA. They seem to be about $30 a roll so I'm going back to the cheap brown stuff until the price gets back to normal.

Not sure what it matters what tape any seller uses,so long as it is strong enough to keep whatever it is being used for sealed

Am I missing something?

Are sellers who have an eBay stores *suppose* to use eBay branded tape?

Are there buyers who compalin if eBay branded tape (which will go in the bin like any other tape) is not used?

genuinely curious

The ebay branded tape is terrible quality and the glue they use stinks really bad. I buy rolls of clear wide packing tape in bulk boxes of 24 it's much cheaper.

Eay sent out boxes of their branded  packaging tape a couple of years ago - free to storeholders as a promotional thingie.

I never used it.....must go on the hunt for it, to sell............I have 36 rolls somewhere.......

eBay sent me 6 rolls for free a few years ago. Once they run out, that's it; I'll go back to normal tape.

Weren't these supposed to be eBay merchandise, purchased from eBay? That was my understanding. If other sellers are selling it and eBay aren't, it would seem eBay has discontinued supply (probably due to lack of sales, as it was at least twice the price that even AP charge) and there is little likelihood of prices going back to 'normal'.

I haven't noticed a stink with my tape, though, oz-e

We are the opposite and remove ALL branding, item numbers and descriptions from postage labels, so our parcels do not become a target or of interest to would be thieves.

eBay satchels and tape just scream "STEAL ME". (Take the shiny Amazonian box instead).

Which is why I never used it.

Yep 100% agree.

Re tape, I buy either 50m or 100m rolls of clear packaging tape from one of those cheap variety shops. I think it's $3.99 for a 100m roll and excellent quality. They don't all stock it but some red dot stores do. You have to shop around to find a store that has it so when I find it I buy extra. Because it's so cheap, I can use it liberally. That is my only packaging expense. I use recycled bubblewrap, filler beads when I can get them, boxes and plastic bags or plastic sleeves. Bubblewrap used to be a big expense. Lucky enough now not to have to buy it

I've got at least 12 rolls, never used and never will be, been sitting in storage for ages - happy to send it anywhere to anyone who pays for the postage. (Tried to give it away via Facebook last year - no takers, but I'll be glad to be rid of it if anyone out there wants it).
