eBay Postage.

Re the fees that eBay charges on the Postage contents of a sale.

Somewhere it states that the ACCC has looked at that issue and found no fault with it.

How can that be when eBay offers a service which many sellers do not  use?

The banks were fined millions for charging a fee for a service they did not supply.

The current system also charges GST 3 times on fees for 1 transaction.

I have just received a return, my postage cost was $3.00 for the envelope.

The return postage was $ 16.70 as charged to my account by eBay for a small satchel that costs $10.70 at the Post Office.

Any ideas on these issues?

Re: eBay Postage.

Re " eBay offers a service which many sellers do not use" . I assume you are referring to items with free postage?

If a seller has "free postage" it means that the postage charge is included in the price of the item, and Ebay's fees is on the total amount the buyer pays.

EG an item sells for $10 plus $12 postage - ebay takes a percentage on total of $22

an item sells for $22 with free postage - ebay takes a percentage on total of $22

As for your return problem, I have no idea

Re: eBay Postage.

To put it plainly.

eBay are seen to charge fees on the final value of the sale - which inculdes the postage cost - this is how they get away with so called ' charging fees on postage '( a service they do not supply).

Re: eBay Postage.

Postage is not included in this item and added to the purchase.

Re: eBay Postage.

It was returned on an eBay label supplied in a small parcel post satchel.

Ordinary Parcel mail.

(It was sent in an DLX envelope with $3.00 postage with item value of $9.75)

The item was supplied as ordered and eBay authorised the return automatically according to their system.

The return label issued by eBay was charged  to my eBay account at $16.70 and returned in a small (post office) satchel with prepaid eBay return label.

A small Satchel postage is  $11.70  at the PO (I pay $10.70 because I still have old barcoded satchels purchased from the PO.)

Re: eBay Postage.

To put it in perspective: eBay charges a fee for the product, Pay GST on that.

Also charges fee on something they do not supply.

Also pay GST on that   AND GST on the amount of GST included in the postage. Then at the PO  we also pay GST on their charge,

So, the $11.70 satchel cost becomes $11.70 (Includes $1.16 GST) + their fee of 11.9% of $1.40 +10% of GST $0.14 and then when we pay at the PO, the GST of $1.16 is included. So total cost is $13.24

I do a range of goods and postage ranges from $1.50 to (sometimes) $98 (international) or more.

It must make a fortune in fees for eBay for a service they give an option for but do not supply and a bonus for the Government in GST that they do not deserve, just because eBay charges on the money, not the product.

Re: eBay Postage.

Can you dummy up a sale on one of your small items and see how much the label is?

Sorry, but Iโ€™ve never used labelsโ€ฆ.sellers come on the boards all the time with complaints, and on .com
