eBay has now written their own scamming policy…

After 17 year of being a loyal customer, with 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006, they tweak a few things, change some policy and now are taking MY MONEY that someone gave to me after I had given them (handed over) one of my personal items (that was for sale), buyer is happy and got their item, but eBay has scammed MY MONEY to use for their own purposes, until they see fit in ‘their eyes’ that I can have MY MONEY - Apparently just taking out their ‘very healthy’ fees aren’t good enough anymore.

After many years of loyalty of using eBay and working hard to get a 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006 - being a relatively a low level user, but alway packed things well and sent them quickly, I was so sad to lose all my good (excellent) feedback. I had temporarily went to the UK, where they transferred my account - with my good rating (eBay advised this), but now I'm back in Australia they can not (will not) reinstate my account back to Australia (due to a policy/payment system change).

eBay advised me to start a new account in Australia (17 years to go, to get my feedback back where it was before), just pathetic behaviour by eBay (belligerent), with eBays all new increased fees you'd think they would treat their loyal customers better.

Insult to injury, they now hold your money back from you, it now take 2-3 weeks to receive my money, and can not tell me when this will stop.

NO WONDER people are going to Facebook Market place.

As stated, you have no idea at all.   For starters money on hold can not be used for any purpose, it does not accrue interest etc.  It is illegal for such monies to be used for any purpose.

Your funds will be held for up to 30 days  and under a new reserve policy  10% may be held for 60days, or you may be required to have a set amount held in reserve.

All things you should have made yourself aware of before listing anything for sale.

I'm afraid I do understand,

Same bank, positively verified once again, not a new seller, I've been with eBay for 17 years with 100% Positive feedback with 226+ people since the year 2006 - always going to that extra effort for buyer with communication for either pick or sending (alway packed very well). Not one bad transaction (all positive with eBay making money from me) for 17 years, so that counts for nothing, like I've said before...

this is a basic pick up transaction, it use to be I put something up for sale, someone pays me for the item, eBay takes their fees, I get my money, and I send off my item or someone comes and picks it up - never a problem for the last 17 years, 'til now.

What has happen is in these instances is the buyer has bought my item in good faith, and has picked the item up (very happy with it), left good feedback, so the buyer now has my pre-owned item, but I have no money , eBay says they've changed policy, and I won't see my money for 2-3 weeks (and they're effectively using my money for their own purposes), at the end of the day it's my money not theirs.

Thank you for this, nice to have someone understanding my problem, rather than jumping on my throat (there appears to be a lot of superior keyboard warriors that must live and breathe eBay in this community) . I will look into this, also I don't know why eBay did not suggest this when I've talked to them, but I will investigate.

Why didn't you just make your item Cash on Pickup?

Would have saved you a whole lot of grief.

You're lucky the buyer loves the item. A buyer intent on scamming you would know that you did not use the pin and QR code that it now sends to buyers and which should be entered into the Ebay app as proof of "delivery" to the buyer. If the buyer opened a case now, you would lose your money.

I think you've caught yourself up in a tangle. You didn't use the pin/code and neither did you take cash. Ebay has no way of knowing that the buyer happily has the item. Your money is sitting as pending partly because you're an infrequent seller and partly because you haven't proved delivery. Your money will eventually make it's way to your bank account, but it will probably take the max amount of time (30 days).

It really pays to stay up to date with what's happening on the platform and read seller guidelines for the new protocols.

Ebay probably isn't the market place for you.  If you're selling a few personal items better off using FB or gumtree or something.  You'll deal with a bunch of tyre kickers, scammers and so on, but it's free.

Ebay is not really the best place to declutter a few personal items.  It's a sophisticated marketplace with a lot of software integrations.  It's designed for business to sell at scale, not for selling knick knacks.

Hi p9,   you are right that ebay has evolved into a sophisticated marketplace, it is still extremely easy to use for the small time seller, and even the intermittent seller is still welcome.   However you need to keep up to date, if you knew all policies  etc backwards  5 yrs ago but have failed to keep up, then nowadays you know virtually nothing.

For mine, managed payments is up there with sliced bread.

And as for payment holds, which have been in place for approx 6 yrs, I am aware that should I take a break from selling via ebay, if I then decide to start selling again the payment hold policy will apply to me, the same as it does to every other member, business or not.

No point whinging about  loyalty, FB etc

I recently sold an item on an account that hadn't sold anything for over 12 months. I was absolutely astonished when a few days after postage I got an email saying my payment had been sent. Sure enough, the next day it was in my bank. I was fully expecting the 30 day hold. It was there in under a week.

I believe this is probably the exception to the rule.

Re: eBay has now written their own scamming policy…

Hi SnD,  There was a post here recently, where someone sold a few items, got paid for the first couple and then holds were applied.  Don't know if a few manage to slip through, or if ebay takes the transaction amount into consideration.   The case I mentioned the first couple of sales were low value, followed by significantly higher value sales.

I do know that ebay take the transaction value into account, when deciding if to release funds early.

Mine was a low value sale ($49 + postage). That could be why. I'm still assuming it was a one off and if that account does get another sale, I am well prepared for a 30 day hold, despite my items being low value (between $10 and $70 + postage).
