Hi crew and fellow muskies,
So I sold an item, more than 5000 clams.
eBay's fee is nearly 600 clams. Ok, I knew that.
Not even a full day after the item sold and before the buyer contacts me, eBay send me a message stating they tried to take the fee from my linked debit account but not available funds.
Here is a scenario, I deposit funds so the fee will go through. (mind you, many people would be waiting to get the funds from the sale in order to pay the fee)
Buyer comes and looks at item and is not what he expects. Walks away.
I cancel trans, eBay credit my eBay account with the already paid fees.
Now I cannot withdraw the 600 clams from my eBay account and am told it can only be used as a credit to pay eBay expenses, not purchases.
I sell very little and may never sell enough to use the credit before I'm 6 ft under.
I know this has come up before.
It really rings home when it happens to oneself. (Hasn't happened yet but a possibility)
I think, the audacity of eBay to ask for the fees so immediate and warn of impending charges if not honoured.
Chill a little eBay. ๐
I am guessing this has happened due to listing being pick up only or maybe due to a larger amount ???

Can't help, sorry, Kopes.
$200 is a big sale for me and I sell enough to recoup credits within a month.
I know it's too late, but maybe look elsewhere for high-value pickup items? After all, eBay's global reach doesn't really apply. Or list lots more items on eBay so you get your money back.
However, I seem to recall a couple of threads about getting eBay to actually refund money...

From memory (which could be wrong) under managed payments if fees paid and sale is then cancelled, the fees are refunded (not an ebay credit) except for the 30c fixed fee. I have only had this occur a couple of times, but I am pretty sure the refund was not in the form of an ebay credit.

You are right gutters, when a trans happens via MP, a refund will go back to funding source.
I think I know why it happened as the buyer seems to have selected cash on pick up.
At my end there is a banner that says, buyer is sending payment.
I think I will wait until buyer picks up on the weekend before I load my debit card, just to see what happens.
Just to be clear, this is only a scenario in which I had the forethought to investigate, hasn't actually happened yet.

Bear in mind that the buyer is supposed to have gotten a 6 digit code from Ebay, as well as a QR code. From what I understand, you are supposed to enter this info into the Ebay app on your phone when the buyer comes through and is satisfied.
Have a read here of what to do on the day (you will still need to mark as "paid").

If you put this to eBay chat CS reps, do they simply clam up?

An update -
Yesterday eBay sent a message stating they have completed the charge from my attached account.
I don't know how they could as it's a debit card and I don't keep funds on it until I make purchases.
So rather than wait and see what happens when it bounces I transferred their $600 fee.
Buyer came today, picked up items and paid cash. Very nice people and very happy.
So all is good.
Not everyone has the extra cash and wait until buyer settles in order to pay their eBay fees.
Something eBay surely would be getting requests on as it happens with occasional sellers, especially if it's a large sale.
And after all, eBay used to wait until the next billing cycle to get paid in the past.
Surely they can have the option for a seller to choose a manual payment on pick up cash items as some buyers may take weeks to pick up or not at all.
