ebay australia is a forgotten dying platform

Anonymous
Not applicable

Its my understanding that ebay australia is now a dying platform and no longer has any growth potential.

This is relevant by the poor customer support, and lack of dedicated customer support.

They have a call back system instead of a dedicated call centre, as its allows them to provide extremely low quality service at an extremely cheap price.

There are no longer physical buildings or further development, with everything going into the online nothingness.

Just a warning to get out while you can

Had a purchase from a pretendie entrepreneur that went sour, and they convolute the return process/wont offer a refund.

Pilot error.

The ebay return system and customer support have done the same thing, and its unlikely Ill get my money back.

Pilot error.

Didnt realise that the ebay customer support goes direct to india, and the worst part with the worst people.

Pilot error.

ebay Australia needs to bring back some selling promotions for its sellers if it wants people to keep listing. They haven’t done so in months and it’s quite sad

I don't think it's a dying platform, but it's evolved significantly from what it was in the beginning, or even 10 years ago. I think that some aspects of this site need updating - for example, I think eBay would benefit from adopting a feedback system similar to Betsy's. You can have 200,000 positives and people will still click on your 14 negatives, and in a way, the way the feedback page is set up encourages people to do just that, by making them clickable. It's very black and white, and online transactions simply are not.

Allowing buyers to upload images of what they received would go a long way, and I also think that Betsy's star system is more balanced.

I don't know if eBay Oz is dying exactly but there are three factors that have reduced my eBay spending.

# The number of sellers that now have their own websites or sell on other platforms has increased markedly....and quite often are a cheaper option.

# Sometimes up to massive savings on postage by finding an overseas seller elsewhere which means no GSP or possibly a seller's over inflated costs.

# Products and collectables that are now available from many sources (not just eBay esp when it came to collectables).  eBay is NOT the only shop in town!

Wow, that sums it up beautifully.

It's not the only shop in town.

I spend a lot online. A lot. But these days I do some of the things you mentioned

# I tend to go onto the actual website of a company. Back in the day I used to buy a fair bit of Tupperware and Postie on ebay but now go directly to the sourse if I want something.

# Every company now seems to have its own website, not just a few, which was the case in the past.

# Ebay guarantees are often worthless, which turns me off buying any of the more expensive or basic products.

Ebay is still a great place for the unusual or not so common items. I love it for small craft items, coins, some old books, spices etc

But I don't know, it almost seems as if ebay is trying to crowd those sorts of products out sometimes and replace small individual sellers with more of the big Chinese sellers.

I just looked at my own ebay record. It seems I haven't bought anything this year. And I count myself as a small but reasonably regular buyer.

I think ebay will be here in years to come but it is changing all the time. Everything does, I suppose.

How very true! 🙂

As for the next eBay item I hoped to buy with the voucher......

I have finally tracked down an alternate non-eBay seller.  The item in cheaper (not by a lot but that's better than nothing) but I also make a saving on the postage so I think I'm only a dollar out than if I'd been able to use the voucher.  So ya boo sucks to eBay.  LOL

So does your gripe  relate to getting neg FB , for buyer receiving damaged item and I assume a full refund by ebay

Your FB reply shows you are ignorant of your responsibility.

I'm not in complete agreement with what the OP has said. However some does make sense.

And I can't see anything in the OP's FB to prove they are ignorant of responsibility. It's really not possible to determine with just one example.

Dunno.  I still do pretty well, and haven't noticed any real drop off over the past several years. OTOH I mostly sell CDs, and eBay members who buy CDs are generally pretty long-standing customers. There are some new accounts amongst my buyers, but lots more that have been around for 5, 10 or 15 years.   In my particular case though, who cares? Unless I outlive them all (which is unlikely - I've been around even longer than most of them) , or unless eBay simply implodes or introduces some new rules or nonsense which are too obnoxious to tolerate, I'll keep plodding along the way I am.

Bringing  back a dedicated call center will pay off in the long run.  It can be done and should be done.
