Get this, I started talking about a transaction I was having a problem with on this discussion board.
The member I had a problem with has the words : If the successful bidder is within Australia they may ONLY pay with Australia Post money order or direct payment to my bank account (I prefer the latter).
In their descriptions.
I have made multiple complaints to ebay via phone to report this as it is in clear violation to ebay policy.
ebay has thanked me and agreed it was not allowed, especially since the seller also has paypal preferred in their listings.
This is the part that makes me mad, when I discussed the issue on this board, I mentioned the title of one the listings the seller is using, plus the finished price.
ebay has now sent me a letter, telling me they have removed the title and amount as it was "not allowed"
I have checked the sellers listings and they still have the mentioned in their listings.
Can anyone else see why I am frustrated?

You are not allowed to post anything on the boards that can name and shame a seller......that includes Titles, Item Numbers, seller's ID or anything that can identify the seller.
You are also not allowed to discuss the removed post/information or comment on any actions taken by the Moderators. If you want to know any further information you should use the message system and ask a Moderator directly.
You can find all this information in Board Posting Rules/Policy.

The boards are a great place to come for advice and the information from above posters is correct. ( in regards to moderators removing your post comments ). I have learnt a heap from following discussions and at times seeking advice.
Back to your original post, yes I agree it would be very frustrating to be told you can only pay with non secure methods. This DOES breach ebays policies and you will not have buyer protection if things go wrong. My suggestion is contact the buyer BEFORE bidding to see if they will accept paypal or just move on to another item if it concerns you. There are plenty more sellers in the ebay sea who will try their best to be accomadating to a potential client.

I am open to correction on this, but surely, if Paypal is shown on the listing as one method of payment, then it must be possible to pay through Paypal even if the seller has added a statement saying they will not accept it. If you pay through Paypal and the seller refunds the payment then It's my understanding that you can still open an "item not received" dispute. Records would show that you were the successful bidder and that you did in fact pay for the item.
This is my understanding, but I am not as experienced as some members here and, as I said, I stand open to correction.

She ele, OP's problem was seller did not have postage listed,
but 'calculate'. So buyer hit a brick wall when trying to pay.
Ebay would not let the payment go through, making it impossible to pay.
But that problem I thought was sorted.
feedme - ring ebay again and talk to a supervisor, to make sure something is done.
As for board usage policy -

the-great-she-elephant - Your advice is technically correct. The problem comes in when sellers start to get "difficult" because their terms have not been met. My experience has been, that sellers who make up their own rules in open breach of ebays policies are the ones who can give buyers the most grief. Hence my advice to contact the seller first or just move on.
It might just be me, but I prefer to make my ebay transactions as smooth and pain free as possible and try to steer clear of some of the more difficult characters that you come across from time to time. It just saves a lot of unnecessary headaches. Sellers who make up their own rules wave the red flag to me.
