hiwhy does ebay take commission on shipping cost as I sell items for auction

why does ebay take a commission on shipping fees?. I have been told by ebay staff by phone to add postage onto price of item & tick postage free. All my items are auctions so if I started item off at .99 cents with postage at $14.80 The buyer would recieve item for nothing & it would cost me more than the item is worth. I don't mind paying commission for final valuation fee 10%. But ebay forced people selling into opening  pay-pal accounts. Pay-Pal   take their commission on total amount deposited by buyer which includes shipping costs. then ebay take their commission out of the total deposit (item final value sold & shipping costs). Do they expect the smaller ebayer members to compete with all the bigger companies that mark their products up when bought & add their propfit percentage plus shipping costs into the price of their items before selling at a fixed price. Example Myers, david jones, target all have postal account where they can send any item anywhere in australia for about $5.00 how can I being a smaller ebay seller compete with that. We the smaller ebay seller are getting charged commission twice on the same final value fee & shipping by ebay & pay-pal. Could you please look into this matter as it is unfair to be charged twice for the one total price by both companies.

You may not have the postage costs as with your ebay sales but if you are having someone run the stall you will have the cost of wages which once again is a business expense.

It just means at the end of the day your net profit from your ebay sales could be at a different rate to your net profit from your market stall sales.

Most market stalls come at a cost and at a guess I would say that anything near award wages would be a lot more than ebay fees.

Even paying the person cash in hand I can't imagine anyone working for less than ebay fees.

yes we have established you do not like paying for things you spend time hunting for boxes rather than just buying them cool you save money but I value my time more than a few cent. You wait for free listing to get your items up rather than paying a small fee to make sure you can list items without worrying about finding free listing offers once again I value my time. Even though you have a very large profit margin you still think a buyer should pick up ebays fees well I do not and personally i doubt if the fee where not there your buyers would see any difference in the price they pay I will let you think they would but come on your the person who check an extra 20% on top of what you think is a fair price for BIN

Which takes the most time - queuing up to buy new boxes, or having someone bring them to you without you even having to ask for them? 

You say you value your time but you could have fooled me - you've spent HOURS repeating the same statement over and over again.  At the end of the day it's just semantics as to who pays the fees - they come out of your profit, and your profit comes from the money the buyers pay you.

I would say you're not erg because 247newdeals sounds too much like the sort of username a go-getting Chinese seller would choose, whereas erg doesn't.  Your username would be enough to frighten most buyers off before they even look at your items!

As to whether tippy's BIN prices are fair or not, if the buyers pay it then THEY obviously think it's fair.  Nobody twists their arm to buy at the higher price because tippy also has the cheaper auction option available.

I do not know which takes longer I do not queue up to buy boxes I found a great place called the Internet where I can order things and they get delivered to your door not sure if it will catch on but I hope so.

It takes no time to post here I work online I can do this at the same time I also can watch TV and do this at the moment I am having breakfast and doing this it is not taking up any of my time but thanks for your concern.

adding 20% on top of 1000% profit I will give you it is the buyers choice even if not really needed

I am a little surprised how much hostility me not charging my buyers the ebays fees is causing

Don't forget public liability insurance I will have to pay that to but as far as paying him as much as my EBay fees you have to be joking he want be getting anywhere near what I pay EBay he will makes as much as the fees on the postage and like them fees the fees for the market stall will come out of my pocket not the buyers.

PS the reason he will not be getting any where near my EBay fees is because of something YOU do not know which is what happens when you make assumptions you end up being wrong again

So you sell an item for say $27.90 with free postage.

You then use part of what the buyer has paid you to pay for the actual postage.

If you put down in any spread sheet that you sold the item for $25.90 and didn't charge postage then you

are costing yourself money and it doesn't make economic sense,(it's like throwing money away).

The spread sheet should say item sale price $$27.90 > postage cost say $ 7.80 = profit $20.10

Obviously you don't have an accountant to do your books,(as they wouldn't believe you).

Off course the buyer pays for the "free" postage as everyone know it's built into the price.

OK, I get it now. You buy your items for $99 from China, you sell your items for $99 on eBay, meaning you get back exactly what you pay, therefore generating $0 profit. In that case, when you get the eBay bill of $9 for selling the item, that $9 is coming out of your pocket. That means you are paying money out of your pocket to sell items at a loss. Makes perfect sense now. Great business sense too! I aspire to be just like you, especially if that's what gets the buyers in. Yeah, I'm happy to make a loss if it means getting buyers and an increase in my feedback score.
