Hi guys,
I am writing here tovent my disappointment and also am asking for advice, here goes:
I listed iphone 5 last friday and the auction ended last sunday. I found it strange that the buyer hasnt paid until yesterday night, because obviously it is a reasonable assumption that if you buy an iphone 5 you will want to pay for it ASAP so I can send it ASAP.
I check the buyer's feedback page, and look what I found: http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=hsvgts1977&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true
He has about 8 feedbacks, thats right, 8 !!! saying that he has not paid for his items. Realising that I will probably be his next victim, I messaged him saying please pay immediately if you are interested or I will offer it to someone else
he is replying by saying that its just only 1 day and how I am so impatient and asking me to go on to sell it to other people, I told him that fine if you are really interested in buying then I will wait for the payment but please dont waste my time, and no more reply after that
obviously any reasonable person at this point will assume that it is very very likely that this guy will not pay
So I contacted ebay through customer chat saying that could you please cancel the transaction, I do not want to pay the final value fee to which the customer replied i have to wait 4 days for the buyer to pay, and then additional 4 days to wait for the case result
THis is just not possible for me to do since this means I will not get cash for my iphone 5 for the next 8 days at the very least. I told her that I need to sell my iphone soon because I need the money ASAP. Additionally iphone is only valuable as long as apple does not have stock, once they have stock why would anyone buy from me ? But she just kept repeating that no I gotta wait 8 days there is no way around it..........
At this point, I am utterly speechless at ebay's service and the quality of protection it gives to its customers. The fact that this guy who is obviously trolling everyone (I have his name and address when I sent him invoices, its not even his real name. its a weird combination of number and letters), including 9 sellers in ebay, and seems to not be banned yet and also have 100% positive feedback just baffles me
Suffice it to say that I have learned my lesson and I will try to never ever sell any big ticket items anymore in ebay. Meanwhile I need to sell my iphone 5 ASAP. I can sell it to my friend outside ebay who already agreed to buy, but the problem is if the guy eventually pays for the item (very small probability if possible) then it will be me who look like a fraudster
Advice ?
thank you

Hi there,
you sound distressed so take a few deep breaths ok.
you are quite new to ebay & there is a LOT to learn.
I will try & give you a few pointers to help you through this.
1. You should outline your TERMS OF SALE [TOS] in your listings. eg - Please finalise your payment within [say] 5 days of auctions ending [unless it is BIN...Buy It Now
2. Ebay have a set limit on the time before you can apply for an Unpaid Item Dispute [which is in the drop down to right of sale titled 'report a problem' if I remember correctly] - sadly prior to this time line you have very little chance of cancelling the sale UNLESS the buyer request you do so.
3. You should ALWAYS look at a BIDDERS feedback as soon as they bid [provided it isn't at the last minute] & if their feedback looks shady then you can CANCEL the bid [somewhere on your listing page ... or go to HOME PAGE A-Z index to find How To Cancel A Bid - that way you can prevent a buyer you aren't comfortable with bidding on your items.
4. Not everyone who buys on ebay wants it immediately so please DON'T panic regarding sales, if your TOS's are in place you just have to be patient with your buyer [there are a lot of wonderful buyers on ebay].
5. Pressuring customers makes you sound a little desperate unfortunately [even if you NEED the money urgently you can't pressure buyers as it makes them wary of YOU !].
6. Start your auctions with the least $ amount you are prepared to part with your item for - then you won't be disappointed if you only receive one bid.
I hope you are feeling a little calmer now & I hope I have been of a little help.

thanks for the reply, you certainly give me some info i did not know about. I am not new in ebay, but I rarely sell in ebay this is my third time
you are right that I am quite pissed. but I am pissed not due to the fact that the guy hasnt paid me and probably wont, but I dont understand how does someone who has not paid for his last 8 items be allowed to bid for another item, he should be banned !
Is this due to the flaw in ebay's system or what ?
If this is a normal buyer with a good feedbcks, I will happily wait and follow ebay's process

great even I learned some stuff there. Wasnt aware you could cancel peoples bids. Im new to selling too, and sometimes you learn the hard way much with everything in life. Im sure you are anxious to sell that phone whilst the hype for it is still around, Im sure if it had been another item you wouldnt be as concerned. Good Luck

Check the history of the buyer, and put your blocks in place. Only ever accept paypal, only ever send via registered, tracked post and always open a dispute if buyer has not paid within 7 days, and NEVER listen to excuses - this way you can not go wrong

Should also have added that if all the sellers who left false positive (hereby just increasing this idiots fb stars) has issued strikes via NPB disputes, you would not have had this numpty buying from you

I found that weird as well but when I read their comments apparently ebay for some reasons do not allow these people to leave negative feedback
so again i think the fault probably lies with the system in this instance

you really should have learned a bit more about how eBay works before you listed such a n expensive item that you ''wanted'' immediate payment for. If you had known the rules, you'd know that every buyer has 8 days to pay for an auction, or a buy it now that hasn't been set up as Immediate Payment Required.
it has been several years since sellers could leave a negative fb for example,
it's your unrealistic expectations, rather than a ''fault in the system'' that is causing yr problems.
~~ ~~ ~~ Those who do right, have nothing to fear.

Sellers can't leave negs for buyers under any circumstance, but a lot of sellers want it on public display that someone didn't pay them so they use the only option available - the positive with a neg comment, which is a policy breach and while may allow a handful of sellers to become aware of a frequently problematic buyer, does absolutely nothing in the long run to stop said buyer from bidding on or buying items, or getting them banned (which seems to be a rare occurence for buyers, anyway).
In fact, it can ultimately have the complete opposite effect, in that leaving a negative comment with a positive feedback is a policy breach, and if the buyer reports them, they will be removed (the comment, not the dot and score), and the seller gets a policy violation - I wouldn't risk my account standing for a non-payer. 😉
Those sellers may or may not have used the Unpaid Item process, but that is the only option available to have any real impact on a buyer's account - if a dispute is closed without payment, a strike is recorded and if they have two or more recorded against their account, it will stop them from buying from any seller who has the corresponding block in place.

you seem not to understand my concern
if you read my previous posts, it will be obvious that
the concern is not immediate payment, its more about how someone with such bad feedbacks are allowed to bid for items
how is it unrealistic for me to complain that someone that had not paid for his last 8 items is not banned and hence is able to bid for my item ?? the system allows this, hence the conclusion that the system is flawed
