Re: i have a problem

This reminds me of what happened when I was a little girl....a long time ago.

We found a small hen in the backyard.....we could not find anyone who had lost her so Dad decided to fatten her up for Christmas dinner, about 6 months away.

He built a cage, bought food for her and looked after her very well.....but she never grew.  We later found out that she was a bantam and would not grow any bigger.   As she was never going to make a good meal for us,  she lived out her rather long life in our backyard happily giving us lovely little egg for many years.

Re: i have a problem

If they live at your place for a while and then they cause an accident when they're crossing the road, you could find yourself being sued.  Yes, all that has to be proven is that you're 'responsible' for them.  I once typed a court case where the judge referred to a dog who was known to run out the gate and play on the road, and when she caused an accident the owners were liable because they were found to be negligible in restraining the dog.  If the chooks were securely fenced and it was a one-off when they got out and crossed the road and caused an accident, that's different.

I know you wouldn't have had the chook/s long enough yet for this to be the case, but be aware that you could well be considered the 'owner' or 'responsible person' if they're there much longer.

If the other chook sleeps on the dentist's porch you should be able to catch it and clip one wing so that it can't fly over the fence.  If it couldn't get out you'd probably find Patricia would stay 'home' too.

Re: i have a problem

I know you've been trying to catch it, but once you start feeding it you're making yourself responsible for it.  I'd suggest calling the RSPCA and asking can they help, maybe even the local police.  The police wouldn't do anything but at least you've covered yourself to a certain extent if an accident occurs.

If you didn't leave any food out they might actually go away.  Have you put up found notices at all the local shops?  A lot of newspapers and radio stations allow 'found' ads for free.

Has wings, will travel... It's not going to starve if you don't feed it!

Re: i have a problem

if you read from the start the food was also to get the chicken off the roof ,,it workrd but now during the day we have 2 chickens at our place and at the dentist  at aprox 5pm they go there seperate ways patricia comes to our place and climbs a tree and sleeps on a tree while the other chicken goes to the dentist you does not feed it ,but stays there all night until morning ,when it now comes to our house,   now why does the other chicken go to the dentist which has no food or water out for the chicken [I dont know] it has nothing to do with feeding it. the other chicken is the pain that is the one i say 4 weeks ago was in the suermaket , it has to go thru 2 sets of doors ,and standing in front of the door  would not be enough to activate the opening doors , so it had to waite until a person went inn.

Re: i have a problem

If the other one is the problem then go and catch it just after dark if it's sleeping in the porch and not too high. If something isn't done it could cause a bad accident, maybe even involving one of your family or friends when they come to visit. Is a chicken worth a human's life?
