newbie buyer wants parcel sent cod

hiya I got a ebay newbie who wants me to adjust postage to Zero  because he wants parcel/s sent COD to his POBox. cos he has a Aust post account.

Ive never sent one like this befor in nearly 9yrs on ebay which has thrown me slightly since he never mentioned anything until after he had bought 2nd item [which ] I didnt know he was bidding on either.

So really two things  1] Im a bit peeved about it because he didnt ask would it be ok  and 2]  Can I post it like hes asking. Zero postage cost doesnt work on invoice unless it says its Pick up so I cant resend invoice without some sort of numerical for posting.

TIA.

I think this buyer is under the misunderstanding that if he gets it COD he can inspect the item and if not happy just hand it back to AP before he/she pays for it which is totally incorrect.

With COD when the parcel is delivered it must be paid for before it is handed over/opened that is why it is called Cash On Delivery not Cash On Inspection or  Cash Upon Opening.:-)

The seller would request the price of the item paid for into Paypal as per normal (in fact they would be mad not to) and only the postage component is paid for by the receiver before they get the item from the PO.  COD, which many sellers use daily - myself included is perfectly safe for the seller as the staff at PO will get a signature once item is collected and POSTAGE paid for. If the buyer refuses to pay, then the seller is still covered as the buyer has chosen not to collect.

Once buyer has the item, all proceeds as normal. The only real problem with COD is that new sellers have no idea how to use it and it is normally listed as an option in error

If he wants a postal service you did not offer, agree on the condition he pays by bank deposit, you then have your money,  if he doesn`t pay his end, yes, Au Post will return it and expect you to pay, if that happens, refuse it and tell them to return it to the buyer, not your problem.

If he does insist on Paypal, ask the Post office if additional registration is able to be added and can he pay for that at his end also,  that way you have proof of postage.

My guess he is using his business account (or employers account) to cover the postage costs of his personal purchases.

OK, interesting re-reading the specifics of COD by lyndal. So, COD is not able to give Seller Protection by Registered Post or Tracking?

Have you checked whether the buyer can pay by PayPal? That just seems easier all round and forgoes the extra fee that the buyer would be paying.

greencat, as you are a COD user, I am assuming the "Statement of delivery" which involves buyers signature on receipt of item and the fee is $2.45 accordingly,  is this payable by the buyer at their end, or required when sending?   the same if additional cover is required, which is $1.50 for every $100 in excess of initial $100 value, so obviously the item is covered up to $100 automatically.

The Auspost info is not completely clear, but interested to know if all the above would in fact satisfy Paypal.

newbie buyer wants parcel sent cod

Hiya all, I sent buyer more info regarding COD was not an option as it wasnt on my listing. Gave buyer my bank details ect for bank deposit.. or could they pay with paypal..

now  the scenario has changed to  buyer will pay with paypal for goods and $2.00 registered fee , then all i have to do is wrap it up he will organise a courier and they will pick it up for buyer from my address,

Im just a tad confused now.. what to do.. !!!

So if I can pack it up and buyer pays me thru paypal [ I get that ok but ] now he wants a courier to pick item up from me... will that still work out ok. ?  pay paypal just for items  with no postage added.

cheers Lyndall for your input and  shypancy for asking questions I hadnt even thought of until now..

If the buyer arranges the courier you will have no proof of posting that will satisfy paypal and your buyer could open a dispute for Item Not Received.

I would stand my ground and insist on the item being posted as you have in your listing...do not allow your buyer to dictate his own terms.

Change the delivery mode to local pick up only and  charge the $2 "packing" as a local pick up  fee.

The buyer protection policy is not available for items that the buyer picks up personally or items that they  arrange for delivery.

You can adjust an invoice and send with zero postage fee, you can not leave the postage area blank on the invoice, you need to enter 0.00 with no $

As Viewmont has outlined, if the buyer organises their own courier to collect the buyer will not be eligible for buyer protection.

If you accept the buyers proposal to pay by paypal and send a courier, it is important that another invoice is sent showing local pick up for your records in case needed further down the track.

Hey SP, never had a prob with it. But, I admit I do not use it for eBay. I use it for the company I work for if a single item is being sent to an end user rather than the retailers we supply in bulk to and of course us freight co, (pallet size deliverys).

As to being accepted by paypal, I imagine the fact that AP can show signature (POD) it should be okay. But no real proof of that as I said have never had to try.

The initial cost for sending is paid by the seller, the balance by the buyer in my experience. We have an AP account so we do get discounted rates.
