Re: now I know why a post loose money

Slightly off topic, but sorta related - to cheap skates Smiley LOL

I recently joined the domino craze (don't laugh !) as we had so many I figured I'd complete the set - you know, just for something to do . . . .

So, I've ordered a couple listed as BIN & won a couple of Auctions and I'm selling our spares.  I was reasonably careful who I bought from (no low feedbacks just trying to make a quick buck).  I was amazed, one Seller mailed in a padded envelope & paid full postage that being $1.40 for large letter - 10/10 brilliant & very professional seller. Another mailed in a standard paper envelope with domino wrapped in tissue paper, also paid correct postage, so another 10/10.  Three others just stuck the domino in a paper envelope and paid only $0.70, when clearly they were too thick and I would say they knew it as there were no return addresses and they were not one time sellers !  Anyway, of course, one of the envelopes arrived torn & empty !!

Now it wasn't the couple of $'s I was worried about, but the fact there was at least at one point a lot of talk of Aust. Post staff actually stealing the dominoes, so I took the empty envelope to my local PO and the explanation I was given was that if only $0.70 postage is paid & letter mail is sorted through a different machine to the large letters, and as it was clearly way too thick to fit, the machine probably forced the domino out the corner, so with no Return Address, they still deliver the empty envelope.  He said sometimes the machine crushes the contents, but anything unbroken just goes to some property office & is sold off.

So, there's a bit of trivia for the day & a great reason not to try & cheat the system - someone always loses !

PS.  Please note this is intended to be informative, but in a fairly light hearted way and has no reference to the use of pensioner/concession stamps.  Also, I don't actually have a problem with envelopes being recycled, providing it is done honestly - with a new stamp attached, I wouldn't be phased if an item I ordered arrived in a recycled envelope, same as it could arrive in a re-cycled box, however I would never recycle an envelope in this way  Smiley LOL

Smiley Happy Joe, by memory - so don't quote me Smiley LOL I'm another one in the grey army !  At first I didn't think so at all, but then started to wonder & I think I ended up concluding it was genuinely innocent, but I honestly can't remember the full story.

Quite amazing how such little simple things can cause so much drama Smiley Happy

Just had the weirdest thought - what if the seller works for sydneywater AND gets his stock from there too !?!

When customers pay their bill using the Reply Post envelope - he might save them ?

Just a crazy thought . . . . . .
