hi All,
I was wondering what effects have sellers noticed in the past while large sporting events are being televised: olympics, commonweath games, soccer world cup etc ?
obviously it depends on what you sell but wondered whether others had noticed more of a downward trend to sales during these times...
thanks

Retail is very slow at the moment, and I think the Games are making it worse. There has been a general downturn in the past 12 months, but it will pick up again. We are a very seasonal store, so we do have quiet times, and we look forward to the Christmas sales to pick up.

Not sure if it is the Olympics ( which we have absolutely no interest in cos they rarely if ever show the Equestrian sports) or the new Best Match sort but sales are down 50% - ouch !!!!

Fox is showing the complete Equestrian on one of its 8 channels. It's been brilliant, I have been flicking through the channels and it is showing a lot of coverage of every single sport so far. Equestrian has been getting at least 3-4 hours per day, every day.
This year's coverage has been 1000 % better now that it is not only one free to air tv showing what they want to show.

phorum junkie
I didn't say I liked the organisation of the olympics, but the sport is still the sport.
It's a pity that too many corporates and too many old fuddie duddies are wrecking the games with their greed and old fashioned ideas
From what I have seen and heard, London has left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths.
Take the olympic flame, still stuck in the middle of the main stadium where nobody can see it. People are complaining that they can't get photos of the flame or photos of them in front of the flame, so what do the organisers do? They put up a big screen showing the flame and tell tourists to take photos in front of the big screen - what a joke lol
Someone over there has no idea what they are doing
