opinions - valid reason for not fulfilling "handling time?"

hi guys,

just wanted to get your opinion on a valid reason for not fulfilling handling time.

i've recently been a buyer on ebay after selling for a long time - i've had one item i've been waiting on specifically - and the seller messages me today saying that "sorry, weather has been wet - will post when we get a fine day."

do people think this is a valid reason for extending their handling time? i could understand if roads were closed or something similar - but no mention of that.

just seeking thoughts :]

cheers!

Maybe they should consider investing in an umbrella.

I catch buses pretty much everywhere, and it's about a 7-10 min walk to the stop so I bought myself a nice, big waterproof bag for the mail, and a large canopy umbrella, so no... I don't personally view "its raining" to be a valid excuse not to meet my commitments as a seller.

I cannot remember exactly how many umbrellas have perished in the wind; Melbourne has some notorious wind tunnel areas. I ended up buying several very snazzy umbrellas indeed from a company that specialises in them; the umbrellas are a special windproof design. They are not only the most beautiful umbrellas I've ever seen, but they are - actually, genuinely, unbelievably - windproof.

Sometimes there's no choice, and I have to put on my nice Russian hat and my special Victorian coachman's coat and go forth.

I bought two Blunts - one classic, and one XS metro.

Well worth the money, and I purchased the first (classic) summer last year after getting through winter with sub-par cheapies that had broken bits, and realising if I'm doing so much walking, it's ok to make a proper investment in weather-protection, but I bought the metro earlier this year after I found myself leaving the umbrella at home if it was just threatening to rain, or was just a light sprinkle. If I could get a hybrid of the two sizes (in terms of size and function - the Lite doesn't quite cut it because it's still super-long), I would be positively joyful. (The classic is nice and big, but overly cumbersome to tote around on the "just in case it rains" days; doesn't even fit in my extra-large mail bag. The XS metro is really just a kid-size, IMO, but at least it fits in my bag).

The Blunts look very good, and have excellent reviews.

If you google "Stormfighter Stealth Fighter Windproof Umbrella", you should see one of the umbrellas I got (for sheer wind fighting power rather than elegance).

for some reason there doesn't appear to be a handling time on the original listing - but based no the estimated delivery date of 14 aug, i'd assume it was 1-2 business days.

they live in the melbourne metro area.

Honestly, it has not been very wet in melb at all.

Some people interstate will believe anything about the weather here & the seller is probably counting on that. But the fact of the matter is, it is unusual to have a day in Melb where it rains all day.

Today there have been a few showers on & off & the last few days have been cool with some wind, but put it this way-I have had absolutely no trouble getting my washing dry & I have a clothes line outside, not a dryer.

I'd say it has mainly been dry over the last week. Our dogs have had a leisurely walk every day, same as always, and no way do we walk in rain.

If the occasional drizzle stops a person from posting, they need to reconsider whether ebay selling is for them.

They have just been lazy & are casting around for any excuse, in my opinion.

If it is not posted soon I'd feel annoyed.

So of course, now we need to know where you bought these windproof umbrellas.

Just realised I didn't read far enough down. My apologies.

I'm not fussed about fashion etc, as I like function over form Smiley Very Happy

The Stormfighters look pretty good (love the name, even), but only 2cm shorter than the Blunt when closed. I should really buy the sling for it, I guess- it's practically a weapon as it is and that would just add to the fantasy aesthetic, anyway - I could almost definitely do a Mary Poppins with it, methinks Smiley LOL

This sounds very like an experience I had some years ago.

I had reason to query the delivery time of an item from the UK.

The seller replied rather snootily that I could hardly expect fast delivery with all the bad flooding in my country.

She was referring to the Brisbane floods of 2011.....I am in Sydney and we were having hardly any rain let alone any flooding.

The seller is very good; I remember receiving my umbrellas quickly. One of them (which I can't find on the site anymore, so I presume it's no longer available) looks like something out of the Folies Bergère (only classier).

The English do seem to know a bit about blustery windy weather!
