I'd hate to work for customer support, because I gave her an earful, and it sounds like she's use to it.

Each time (every 2nd listing) "Thanks for being with ebay for 14 years"

Well maybe it's time to leave..

firstly, the "payouts" of -$123.45

Yeah, because that makes sense *rolls eyes* NEGATIVE funds is not a pay-out.

The Payments tab (as a whole) is incomprehensible. It seems to be intentionally deceptive.

Fees & postage costs should be automatically deducted. Leaving us with how much me WE earned, NOT eBay

BEWARE eBay FEES: for 3 or 5 day auctions, sub-titles, and the flat rate can be 20% sometimes 30%

Among all the other FEES I'm yet to discover. I sold several items for $0.99 because I don't like waste, if someone can use it then that's better and greener for the environment. Until I realized, it was costing ME money.  I told the girl that several items didn't even sell.. But of course, eBay still charged me.

The fees are clearly shown before you send a listing live.

 

If you choose to use expensive unnecessary frills, that's you choice.

 

You have negative payments because you sell at a loss. Your choice.

 

My payments page clearly shows my nett earnings on every item.

So you abused the customer service girl because you made poor choices for what you were selling and ignored the fees you were agreeing to each time

 

Why are you yet to discover?  nothing is hidden

 

And again, your choice to list things for 99 cents

 

You could have just as easily donated them and been just as green (if not more, since there would have been less 'transport' and packing involved)

 

I agree, maybe it is time to leave if after 14years you still don't know selling basics

I don't need to Google to know that you are referencing a few eBay employees who are no longer employed & prosecuted 5 years ago.

Don't see what this has to do with you not being aware of the fees which are clearly shown as Dave explained.

Interesting you say what to avoid,  you should say what should I have read before listing.

 

Oh and by the way you shouldnt be leaving false positives for buyers,  I note you managed to get their feedback deleted,

Rewarding bad behaviour and telling people to avoid the buyer when nobody else is going to have a clue who they are talking about

 

OP, if you keep doing that, you won’t have to leave, eBay will shut you down for continuing to break policy with your false positives

Ebay fees add up, they sure do.

We discovered that over 20 years ago when we were selling plus paying a listing price for each ad, whether we sold or not.

These days, people have access to a lot of free listings but of course there are fees when you sell.

You need to make yourself familiar with the amounts before you even list.

 

What we found was that even 20 years ago,  99c listings were not worth it.

Not worth the fees or your time.

We paid a fair bit in ebay fees each month but there was always profit after fees were deducted.

 

That's what you have to work out. What your profit will be after you have sold an item and paid the fees.

On the whole, we found we were better off selling things that cost at least a few dollars, it just wasn't worth the bother otherwise.

I agree with you, eBay is not the best place to buy and sell now. Try also Whirlpool to leave you comment to have a fair say  instead.

eBay’s policy pages and other help pages lay it out clearly.  OP, I’m sorry that the fee totals came as a shock to you; I can only assume that you plunged into selling without actually reading the relevant pages.

 

You'd have seen additional fee explanations through the process of listing, though… so I’m a little puzzled that you didn’t notice those fee explanations while creating your listings.

 


I’ll post some of the relevant material here (selling fees without a store) in this thread, as I can see that some posters in these boards won’t click onto the helpful links. It's generally free to list items* in auction-style or fixed price format on eBay.com.au.

 

When you list your item, you can select features that require an additional fee, but may help your listing stand out and attract more buyers.

  • All sellers listing on eBay.com.au are entitled to 250,000 free listings per month for items listed in auction-style or fixed price format in most categories, including relisted items and listings that are ended early.
  • An excess listing fee of $1.00 (incl. GST) per listing will apply if you have used up the monthly free listings, or if you list an item in a category that is excluded from free listings (see our category pricing list (PDF) for details of exclusions).
  • All existing selling limits on your account (as well as category and item limits) still apply, and may prevent you from creating the maximum number of listings stated above.
  • If you choose to list your item in two categories, you'll pay a feature fee for listing in the second category per the table above, and any other feature fees will be charged twice (once for each category).

Fees when you sell your item


You pay one final value fee for items you sell on eBay, with no third-party payment processing fees.

 

The final value fee is calculated as a percentage of the total sale amount per item (item price + postage and handling charges + any applicable taxes), plus a fixed charge per order.

In most cases, especially if you’re selling inexpensive items, add-on features and second categories are NOT WORTH IT! Use the basics, just the basics.

 

I also echo what’s been said about 99 cent listings. Not worth it. Put a fair price onto items, otherwise, as you said… you’ll be out of pocket. You do not pay more if you have a higher starting price. Keep it quite low if you want but make sure that the total price will cover all fees and leave you at least something for your trouble.
